If the PSU is not going on the plane, thain or automobile to get shipped to the other side of the planet, gluing capacitors to the PCB is not necessary.

Furthermore I am a bit stuck since I have to find the caps somewhere in Europe and I don't know with which substance I can replace the white goo, since it is needed to protect against mechanical stress, to prevent unwanted movement of caps closer to heat sources, but also to dampen any kind of coil noise. I had to break the hardened goo in some places and a full clean and re-goo later on has to be done once I have the caps sourced and mounted.

I believe the stuff you are after is called Silicone rubber (RTV). Comes in various grades of hardness but most electronic component suppliers stock the stuff.

This issue with phosphor persistence is the real reason for video interlacing: a progressive scan at 30 Hz (NTSC) or 25 Hz (PAL) would be intolerable. So the image is interlaced and scanned at twice that rate, which looks fine.

Fascinating, this explains a lot. I have long been a huge fan of CRT displays, so I really appreciate this info.

when i think about it we should... no wait, it seems more safe to formulate it as question: is it wrong to suggest that the pictures should simply be of the same size than the surrounding container?

Or at least of the same width, if I may add.

So, if I understand it correctly, I have to install DirectHW.kext first by using KextUtil.sh, right?
And then I have to put flashrom binary into what? /usr/bin/ ?

You can view the .command scripts to see how they do it. They install directhw.kext temporarily.

You can install Direct-HW.kext however you like. You can view KextUtil.sh to see how it does it.

You can just use the .command script by double clicking it. It gets executed in a new Terminal.app window.

You do not need to install flashrom to /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin or whatever. You see in the command script it executes flashrom from the same directory that the command script is in using sudo ./flashrom

i just noticed that there is something wrong with the new theme anyway, the sidebar with the user avatars is almost twice as broad as it should be (moz win10)

when i think about it we should... no wait, it seems more safe to formulate it as question: is it wrong to suggest that the pictures should simply be of the same size than the surrounding container?

i mean the width of the post text is fixed, which i appreciate.

Indeed.. But I am certain I saw embedded images when I checked the site from a different machine without logging in a month or so ago. And no, I wasn't under influence of illegal substances.

Embedded images can be seen by anyone.
Not true in this particular "embedded" case @ssp3. ::)

And now, the difference between the "old" (left) and the "new" (right).
Note the loss of the complete 600 width image displayed on the right.

*Again, not on my regular workstation and using Graphic Converter
instead of my customary Photoshop. Otherwise I could accurately
assess the measurable loss of image via the new 2.0 layout.

The good thing about the "thumbnails only" posts is that non-registered users can not see them, inviting people to subscribe, if they want to learn more. Embedded images can be seen by anyone.
