Cameron Kaiser released beta 6 of his Lynx port for (classic) Mac OS. The text-based browser is now available in a special PowerPC version too. Mostly UI improvements and bugfixes have been added. A detailed post on the developer's blog goes into the difficulties with this update and his future plans for MacLynx, like adding built-in Crypto Ancienne for onboard TLS. Exciting to see a PPC only build. I've been using beta 5 for quite some time, both on my IIci and the Mac Mini and it's great to see it being worked on! Any other MacLynx users here? Kinda feels like this will be the future of accessing stuff on the corporate WWW.

I notice the power issue when I plug-in to my DLSD my external FW 800 enclosure containing the 4 TB Samsung 860 PRO SATA III SSD, and, simultaneously, my external FW 400 enclosure containing the 2 TB Samsung 860 PRO SATA III SSD. The DLSD's screen, once booted into Mac OS X, simply goes black not too long after plugging both in simultaneously. That 4 TB drive is not even TLC, but MLC, which I'm sure adds to the power draw.

It turned out that paragraph of mine was incorrect: I never had a power-draw-related issue related to the usage of SSDs, even in that case. This only happens with my Tiger install, but not my Leopard one, making this 100% purely into a software issue.

I don't think it's an inherent Tiger flaw, though... I believe it's more likely that my Tiger partition has seen over the years a lot more use than my Leopard one, and so it's bloated with a lot more stuff than my Leopard one. More specifically, I'm suspecting it's, in fact, a bug tied with the Sleepless app that I have in it, whilst having anything plugged in via FireWire... My Leopard install lacks Sleepless (and a lot else).

Try using System 7.1 and selecting "Single Sided" from the Format... dialog.

System 7.1.2P is the latest version of Mac OS that allows formatting MFS disks. System 7.5 ~ 7.6 can still write data to existing MFS disks, whereas 7.6.1 is able to only read data from them, and starting with Mac OS 8.0, such disks don't even get mounted at all.

Bringing back to Mac OS 9.2.2 what was lost from earlier system versions would definitely be something to try.

Of course, you should be able to use System 7.1.2P (and any other System before Mac OS 7.6) in Mini vMac from Mac OS 9, although I never tried to use Mini vMac to format real floppies or CDs, so I don't know for sure it is able to do that. But you definitely can create MFS disk images from it.

I don't use that feature, I tend do use bookmarks in my browser instead. Not sure how it works, but I'll take a look

How does one add a bookmark under “Forum or Board Default” or the “Mac OS9 Lives 3.0” themes?
 
I’m not seeing that option… except for under the original “Blu” theme.

Perhaps I need my vision checked?
