I started in the order prescribed (I was doing it the other way around), but that changes nothing.
There was a previous installation of ProTools free 5.01 on this computer. I guess I'll have a  "search and destroy" party tomorrow...

but now I'm signing off.

yes u cant have pt free installed
there is an application for removing it i think.. 'digidesign uninstaller' i think its called

it should be on the pt le cd.. run it first before installing.

http://akarchive.digidesign.com/support/docs/Pro_Tools_FREE_501_ReadMe.pdf
read here

i think the important thing to do is to trash the DAE + DSI files + folders + then reinstall 5.3.2 once u have eiminated all of the pro tools related files + Extensions

This morning I believe I have zapped all traces of former ProTools free and reinstalled PTLE 5.3.2. Still no joy.
But I have found this little bit on the internet:

Q:
Pro Tools does not recognize my Digi 002. I have a non-English version of Mac OS 9.2.2

A:
Users with a non-English Mac OS may have later versions of the FireWire extensions that do not have a particular feature found in the v.2.5 or later North American version - callback at interrupt priority - this is required in order for Digi 002 FireWire drivers to load. Additionally, some versions of the Mac OS may not even allow the customer to use the older 2.5 North American Versions. The customer must download the FireWire developer kit from Apple's web site. The Apple FireWire developers kit includes version 2.8.1 of the extensions. This should work with any OS. The link is ftp.apple.com the package is extracted go into the FireWire 2.8.1 SDK>Extensions>FW Extensions>FireWire 2.8.1 (TM)> and copy these 2 extensions over what is currently loaded in the system (be forewarned that the names may be different with different languages but the icons will always be the same)

I happen to run a french-canadian OS9.2.2....
Trying to find the mentionned "FireWire developer kit". Of course the link to it is dead, as can be expected of Apple. On the Pismo I have the french-canadian version "FU1-2.8.5" and on my DA (my main studio's 001 system) I have "FU1-2.8.7". Will try a transplant, but I'd really want to find the 2.8.1 versions mentionned.

I think that extension is on our Drag'n'drop install. http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?board=62.0

Try to download to see if I am correct or wrong.
Looking for MacOS 9.2.4

The Firewire extension in the "Drag and Drop" is 2.8.7, and he is searching for the 2.8.1 version.

HA!!
it is working!
I have replaced my firewire extensions with english 2.8.7 versions.
I have registered PT with my registration nr. I got from my PTLE 5.1.1 (that came with my DIGI001) install CD beginning with DIGI0510......

I am successfully running the "Be There" demo, CPU load about 30%.
Still have big problems with OMS. I just tried opening the "OMS MIDI setup" from the Setups menu, and it crashed PT. I still get 1010 error trying to run OMS setup.

The PT control panel is working OK.

Big progress! After barely a day of frobnication!

he he,
I have found the disk for the Firewire 2.8.1 SDK on Macintosh Garden:
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/apple-developer-connection-software-seed-cd-rom-april-2001
I will download it as soon as I'm near a fast internet connection...
Right now what is not going too well is the transfer of my RTAS plugins from my DA to the Pismo.

Hey!
I'm back after a week of seeking an occasion to download the old Firewire extensions. Rather stupid situation of having to download a 450M package for two measly drivers totalling 370K. Especially since it does not work!!. After installing the two 2.8.1 drivers, my Digidesign hardware could not be found... So I reverted back to the 2.8.7 drivers. I also upgraded my DAE to version 5.3.2cs2.

Now for more fun: every time I start ProTools on this system, it nags me with the following message:"The firmware on the DIGI 002 does not match the current version. Would you like to download the current version? etc.". The 002 is running system firmware 1.21, which I believe is the latest version. Will this "download" operation is just gonna downgrade me to the "current" version ProTools 5.3.2 is aware of? should I do it?

I also have issues with plug-ins. I started to transplant plug-ins I have on my main studio's DA/DIGI001/ProTools LE 5.2.1 system, but they don't work anymore (channel strip, amongst others). I even downloaded RTAS plug-ins from this site, but still no joy.
I'm starting to wonder if all that iLock shit is interfering: I have none of this on my studio rig...
What exactly is that iLock/interLock stuff used for on a PT5.3.2 LE setup?

sorry if I have more questions than answers...

Ha!
late-breaking news: I have apparently resolved my OMS crashing problem!
I have removed the "FW-1804 OMS driver" I had in my OMS folder. Since this is a Firewire device, looks like it was interfering with the 002 OMS driver... Now I can configure OMS with the 002.

look in the manual there is something you need to uncheck in the oms prefs that could mean trouble

Just occurred to me: could some plug-ins only work on G4??
studio rig is a G4 DA
the one I'm trying to setup is a G3 Pismo Powerbook and DIGI 002...
all running Mac OS9.2.2

Download the firmware, it's standard practice on the Digidesign hardware. I need to upgrade or downgrade the firmware of my Pro Control when I go from Pro Tools TDM 5.1.3 to 6.4.1 for instance.

It will upgrade the firmware if you use a newer version of Pro Tools LE with your 002, and downgrade the firmware if you use an older version.

I let it download the firmware. Quite ludicrous, if you ask me: it takes almost 12 minutes, downgrades the system to 1.04 (!), faders to 1.05, and boot to 1.00. Then hangs.

wow thats really crappy if thats the case...  :-[ :-[

perhaps u can figure out which plugins are not compatible?
does this mean its incompatible with every protools plugin on macos9lives? they are only compatible with 001/amIII/TDM?

this makes no sense.. mbox uses pt5.2.1 and that one is compatible isnt it?

is it the plugins that is causing your system hang? does the entire os crash?
