Recently installed Mac Mini 1.42ghz
« on: July 28, 2025, 05:44:45 AM »

I have recently installed my Mac Mini 1.42ghz and whilst I was expecting the Audio issues on this hardware. I wanted to share that in my experience I have found a better solution than the recommended
Logitech S150 2.0 Speaker System. I found these speakers are set to a non adjustable and very loud volume. Unfortunately the Volume buttons are software buttons that try to adjust the machine volume, which they obviously are unable to do.

I have now however tested at length a SABRENT USB Stereo Sound Adapter (Model: AU-MMSA) and this works beautifully with any pair of PC speakers that have a internal amplifier and physical volume control.

The adaptor I bought was €8.19 from Amazon and allows me to play Lemmings without deafening myself ;)

Thanks for this amazing project, really appreciate all the hard work that has made this possible.

Hey CraigsBar, welcome aboard!

And THANK YOU… for taking the time to test and to also report on the SABRENT USB Stereo Sound Adapter (Model: AU-MMSA) with your 1.42 GHz G4 Mac mini. Always good to have yet another option. ;)

or emulate a TAM and put Bose Lifestyle® 20 music system's Jewel Cubes on Table Stands and add a Bose Acoustimass® Sub :)

While that would be nice, a little OTT perhaps ;) I actually have a pair of Logitech Z120 desktop speakers. USB Powered, White cases and silver cones with no superfluous grills or covers. They match the Mac Mini aesthetic very well IMHO.

So does this become an ASIO audio device that can be used system wide or is it just something that works in games and such.  People should understand the difference before buying.
