MacNFS file sharing
« on: September 14, 2025, 05:40:35 PM »

Hello,

Longtime lurker, occasional poster.  I am trying to get MacNFS to run as a client on my Quicksilver which has OS 9.2.2 and OS X 10.5.  I run Marcel Bresink's NFS Manager (Version 5.97) as a server on my MacBook Air.  I am able to connect to the server from Quicksilver OS X 10.5 via "Connect to Server" in the Finder.  However, I am unable to do so from Quicksilver OS 9.2.2.  I select NFS in the Chooser and when I try to connect I get various "MOUNTD" errors.  After several hours of troubleshooting the last two days I realized I need help.  And Knezzen, I think it might be from you as I see from past posts here and elsewhere that you were able to get it to work in the past.  So was I, just two years ago on this same set-up but there was a crash, mistakes were made, etc.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

on your Macbook Air (server side): have you set privileges to read/write for your shared folder?

on MacOS 9.2.2: there are different versions of the NFS extension, one is patched (3.0p3) the other/others aren't. I use the unpatched version which I put manually in the extensions folder. Reboot then everything was fine.

NB: when I started using NFS I experienced various issues running the NFS installer. Manual install (just the extension) solved everything on my side...

It worked!  Thank you so much!  I spent the better part of three days trying to figure this out before knuckling under and asking for help.  Am very glad I finally asked.

And then of course I update the software on my server computer to Tahoe and it stops working.  That'll teach me.

The system upgrade surely messed up the NFS Manager settings and maybe Firewall settings as well. Can't help you as I'm still on Sonoma.

NB: System upgrade with MacOS? ==> loss of settings, lots of third party apps that no longer work ==> loss of time, money and capacities

You were right about loss of time.  But I got it working although some of what I did remains murky.  First, there is an updated NFS Manager version 6.0.  That helped a lot but I still had to change the server path as Tahoe renamed my computer.  Also I had to change my firewall setting.  But everything seems to work now.

Glad to know your NFS transfer capacity has been restored.
