Hello (again!)
« on: November 26, 2024, 11:45:16 PM »

Hello,
I am new in this community, so let me introduce myself. I come from Italy, my first apple product was a Performa 630 (1996 I guess), followed by a 1999 iMac G3 blueberry and then a 2004 iBook G4. Then I switched to windows PC for university and job reason. Recently the desire for old Macintosh came again and so I bought a 1999 Graphite iBook (plus two PBs 100, a PB180 and two Classics, which I would like to restore by changing the capacitors, if you give me some tips).

My question is : I would like to give to my father (as a gift for his birthday) the iBook equipped with some grahics and CAD programs to remember the good old days. Do you think the iBook can run some old version of CAD? It should have MacOS 9 (I need to check which version).

How do I transfer the file to the iBook. Currently I have an Asus running Ubuntu and I am not 100% sure if I would be able to connect the iBook to the internet.

Could you help me?

Thanks
Greetings from Italy

hello, my experience is limited cause I moved to real hardware recently but

1) internet connection is no problem: your router surely has the proper wi-fi options to do so, for me the easiest way was Ethernet (you need a cable) => instant connection via the TCP/Ip control panel

2) CAD software: I've installed Bryce 4 and Poser 4 on my Pismo G3 400 Mhz (less than your Graphite iBook which is 466 Mhz) : they both run fine provided you give them enough memory (128Mb or more if you can)

cheers
