Brit with a Mac
« on: Today at 07:58:21 AM »

Hello, I've just found a long-stored 1.25GHz Uni MDD (minus HD & RAM) that I hope to vacuum out revive with OS9. I have no real use for it, but I do remember playing Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord, so that's a purchase I hope to make in the future - if I can find one for sale!

I also have some 2011 iMacs (24" & 27") that I rescued from my old business, and have since upgraded to SSD. One of them has OS10.6 and Adobe Creative Suite 4 installed, and the other two have Linux Mint OS, so can do everything that a modern computer can, just a little slower. I have another one that I'm deciding what to do with.

I'd like to put one of the old iMac HDs into the MDD, and reading through the Hardware section here, I found out I needed an adapter board, so I ordered one today. I've also ordered 2Gb of RAM. If I get stuck, I'll post something on one of the forums here.

Cheers!

Hey! Just a tip if your post is to be taken literally: Don't use an actual vaccum (hoover?) inside a computer, they give off lots of static electricity which can kill or at least shorten the lifespan of electronics. Use compressed air if you have it or a dry cloth if you don't.

Thanks! I haven't started doing anything yet, so that's a good save.

Yes, I was being literal, it is so dusty, but I'll take your advice. I'm digging into it over the weekend. Most of the parts I've ordered won't arrive until Monday/Tuesday anyway, so can't install yet. I've also ordered a DVI-DP cable to use an old monitor I found too.

Cheers
