well ive done it! created my ftp.. for backup.. using this ancient relic's PATA ports lol
i thought this Highpoint controller on this board supported RAID but i was wrong
so i had to install XP and use software raid-5!
to enable raid1 mirroring + raid5 arrays in windows xp Sp3
http://addto.it/Software-RAID-0-1-5-or-JBOD-Using-Windows-XP-Pro-SP3after downloading the 3 files + bat file from this site and placing into the C:\windows\raid directory i created
i used hirens boot cd to boot into "mini xp" and run the .bat file
worked like a charm!
i now have functional software raid-5 disk array in windows xp to use as a ftp to backup my mac files
using old IDE hard drives that were lying around unused
this page just saved my ass so im stashing the link here
now i just have to get the ftp part set up and get to archiving !
i would like to have a back up on an os9 mac in the future but time is of the essence right now
thanks to 'go fuck yourself daddy'

i wanted to slap the guy talking so bad.. hes so annoying lol
i came across this video

which talks about using a unix based custom os for this purpose called "freeNAS"
but his system was using a xeon w/ 4gb of ram so i thought my little crappy box
wouldnt be able to cut it but it looks interesting nevertheless
worth exploring.. custom unix based os for filesharing server..
