David Lerner, a Mr. Fix-it of Apple Computers…
« on: November 30, 2025, 03:03:06 PM »

“He and a partner founded Tekserve, a Manhattan emergency room for frozen hard drives, keyboards, screens and their confounded owners.” -NY Times

If the following link works for you, I’d very strongly suggest a read of this NY Times article about David Lerner (and especially all of the comments there too). Sounds like a much more personal and friendlier precursor to what some of us know as the “Apple Store”. (Only muy much better.)

Or, brief Wikipedia info here:

Wonder if DieHard knew or ever met this guy?

And I think maybe David Lerner had some of the same spirit that some of us here often exhibit?

There's a novel based on this business (TekServe) that I read a few years ago. It's called Laserwriter II. Here's my review of that novel if you're interested:

Hoopla!

For anyone interested in the audiobook (free borrow) of Tamara Shopsin’s “LaserWriter II” — hoopladigital.com offers this title.

Hoopla also offers: Ebooks, Movies, Television, Comics and Music. All free and at no charge… IF your local library offers this streaming service to your computer, or television. (You might even apply for a digital library card from other libraries that also participate.) Not a fan of audiobooks? Me neither. However if I can’t find a particular title at my local library… an audiobook might just do in a pinch.

Have also read a review of Shopsin’s “LaserWriter II’ — which loosely likens it to Robert M. Pirsig’s “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance”. So that alone might just warrant an audiobook listen for me.  ;)
