Hi Everyone,
as the subject says, I am looking for an update to indesign 3 (or indesign CS if you will), which is part of the original Creative Suite. The version I have will not open INX files, and the 3.01 patch apparently fixes that issue. I need to be able to open inx files in this version in order to save them again in INX, which will be openable by indesign 2, in mac os 9.

TL:DR: Looking for update to Indesign 3/indesign CS or Creative Suite 1.

Thanks so much... That's exactly what I asked for, and the updater works. However, it still won't open any INX files from indesign CS2. If anyone has an idea, i'm all ears. Otherwise, I guess I will find something else to play with in 9.2.2, because it won't be these indesign files.

After reading your reply, I did a search and found that Adobe released several InDesign CS 3.0.1 updates; March 2004, August 2004, and April 2005 (which is the last one).

The file I uploaded was the April 2005 version, directly from Adobe when their old servers were still active. But the updater file was created in July 2004 which is strange.

So I went to archive.org to check and found that you can still download it there, the download link works.

But it is the exact same file that I already have.

Then I stumbled upon a document explaining how to check if the update is *really* installed.

So I followed the document by launching my InDesign CS, pressed Command key and chose InDesign > About InDesign. Turns out my InDesign CS is still not updated because it shows CS(424) not the CS 3.0.1 838.

By the way, the updater's read me file says INX files from Indesign CS cannot be opened with InDesign V2.x.

So, in the end, you probably better try other files.

Thanks, I'll check those out.. Sounds like it may be a dead end anyway. No big deal, I'm only doing this for nostalgia's sake. My prepress career was two lifetimes ago!

sadly, none of those updaters worked (they all seem to work, but the version number doesn't change).

anyone know a way to move indesign files from CS2 down to 2.0?

I compared files in the (Apr 2005) updater with the ones in the original and found the updater didn't update any of them. So I tried replacing them manually and it seems to work. The version number is now CS 3.0.1(838).

There are 3 main locations in the hierarchy tree that need action.

/Volumes/IDCSupdater/IDCSupdater/Contents/Resources/OEM_/InDesign CS.app/Contents

/Volumes/IDCSupdater/IDCSupdater/Contents/Resources/OEM_/Plug-Ins
