OS 9 beats OS X again (keyboard latency)
« on: August 29, 2024, 01:09:45 AM »

I had posted a link to Cheapskate's article on past, today and tomorrow's computing here yesterday. It comes with a good dozens of links to other pages and I was ploughing through them during my morning coffee.

Anyway, found an interesting article that deals with input latency of keyboards across the time. The headline is actually "Why Modern Computers Struggle to Match the Input Latency of an Apple IIe". (if you're interested, the full thing can be read here, but requires a modern browser.)

While comparing various systems with eachother, there's also a comparison between a 800 Mhz iMac G4 running OS 9 (no further specification which version) and PPC OS X. Lo and behold, OS 9 wipes the floor with OS X. Well, we all knew that, didn't we? But at least now we got some numbers for it. Here's the table from the article:

Thought ya'll might find this interesting!
