ejecting CD tray on QS and MDD - is there an easy way?
« on: July 17, 2024, 12:52:18 AM »

Ok, time to have 'that' conversation.

Once, I lived in a blissful land, with a Gigabit ethernet machine. Those days were grand - any time I wanted to eject the CD drive, I could push on the case, or press the eject key on the keyboard - and BEHOLD! the cd tray would come out. Ah yes, they were fine, fine days indeed.

But now, these days are different... with a QS and MDD case, there is no such luxury as being able to eject via pushing an easily accessible part on the case. So, one learned to fashion new tools. The humble paperclip is now a poker at one end, a hook at the other... in a the shady world that is behind the flap on the case, it is difficult to see the small hole, in the dark, on a black background... (lucky for torched on phones)

Also, for some reason, under OS9, the keyboard eject button doesn't seem to function either...

So, to the question - for the love of all things Mac, is there an easier way?

For MDD which has 2 optical bays, there are Eject Upper Drive and Eject Lower Drive applications for OS 9 in the Apple Extras > Eject Extras folder. I don't know about QS but they should be there too.

strange place though; OSX does that automatically and offers you two menu in the menubar, where the upper one is always the upper drive slot. when i remeber right, it also works by default to alt-eject.

Also, for some reason, under OS9, the keyboard eject button doesn't seem to function either...

to me it often feels like you have to press that button a bit longer than normal keys until it finally does what it should.

Cheers for the replies everyone. It was seriously driving me bananas. I really didn't like being out witted by a cd drive!
