EVERYBODY - Your OS9 Printer?
« on: March 23, 2020, 12:50:47 PM »

In an attempted answer to Torvan’s query here: http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,5394.0.html
and to the continuing question that always seems to arise...

Please comment on what printer you use (or are using) with OS 9?

Here, other than the old Apple branded printers: Laserwriters, Stylewriters and Epson inkjets… I do have an HP 1300 Laser printer that (I think) also still works under OS 9. I've several of the Epson inkjets, an old Stylewriter (or two) and even an old dot-matrix Apple branded printer still socked away here. And all of these would require some very severe attention in order to “rise” and possibly work again.

So I ask what everyone else is still using under OS 9?
What printer are you currently using with OS 9?

And yes IIO, please look under your bed. ::)

I use a Kyocera FS-1370DN with my MDD and my 8600 (via postscript) for printing. It's a sturdy office quality printer. Very reliable. Toner is incredibly cheap and easy to get on ebay. Only downside is that it has no color capabilities. (but I don't need that)

If it ever breaks (which I hope won't happen too soon) I'll try to get it again!

EDIT: I just checked it out ... it has thus far printed 33178 pages and is still going strong. Try that with a $50 HP cheap plastic trash printer!

Epson Stylus Photo R200

HAH! I have one of those and two R300s sitting in the garage because the print heads are hopelessly clogged. I have tried every ink-thinning chemical, ink-removing trick, Windexing technique, everything short of boiling in acetone without success.

My best advice: If you have an Epson Stylus that still works, be absolutely certain you exercise it at least weekly to keep ink from drying and hardening in the print head. It can and will get to where it's simply unusable and unfixable.

Yes, Had clogging issues with the Epsons that I had too... maybe they're more prone to that type of thing? The Epsons went to the dumpster and I became a fan of Canon... that was probably early-ish OSX era though so might not have printed OS9 since??

Laserwriter Pro 600 (with a AsanteTalk LocalTalk to Ethernet Bridge) ... but it's due to be torn down and have the rubber on the rollers restored.

Epson Photo EX, but normally I print to PDF-file and printing black and white elsewhere, more cheap.
But I have to say that ten years old Canon IP9110 wide-format (60"/1.5m wide) support Mac OS 9. And some about about ten years old Xante Illumina 502 laserprinter also support Mac OS 9, but there is not drivers in internet, I have seen driver CD.
