Adjusting brightness of the screen/display/monitor in 9.2.2
« on: August 16, 2019, 08:54:32 AM »

Have hunted high and low and find nothing directly related to this, not on the site nor elsewhere.

I would like to be able to adjust my VGA display brightness 9.2.2 on anything (G3, G4, PB, PM etc), lower it from full for instance, or even turn all the way down when I leave the office a few minutes. Is there software for this? Neither Monitors (8.6.4) nor Energy Saver (3.0.5) allows this. Anyone know? Or know for sure it can't be done (aside from hitting the power switch)?

Depends. Are you using an original Apple monitor? Is it a flat panel? I'm not as familiar with modern Apple monitors, but many of the older Apple CRTs let you adjust their brightness from a control panel. (more notable on the all-in-one machines though)

Though if it's an even older monitor it may have screen/brightness as physical controls on the monitor itself. Like the monitors that came with the Macintosh LC. (though that won't be running 9.x anytime soon so non issue for you probably). If it's one of those you can't use software to adjust them aside from changing resolution/color depth.

If it's a third party VGA monitor, then you'll have to use the monitor's controls for that as well. Apple's control panels for adjusting screen work only on their official monitors as far as I know.

The freeware control panel MacDim is a screen saver where you can dim the screen to any level.
