Dongle, but which Logic version?
« on: January 06, 2014, 11:58:41 AM »

A friend of mine, passed his Logic for Mac OS 9 on to me. Sadly when he stopped to use 9 in 2011 or something, he throw away the entire box, with all the manuals, install CDs and everything. The only thing that survived was the ADB Dongle.
How do I find out which Version belongs to the Dongle, and where do I get it?

Only information I have is "must have been some 5 version",

Yes, I know the connectors, and the busses, thanks. ;) The confusing thing was, why people report about serial dongles for Logic? I just know ADB dongles. Does anybody else know serial dongles?

If your dongle is using the ADB-port it's valid for use with 4.x at the latest. When introducing Logic 5, Emagic switched to the USB standard with the XSKey. Now they had just one type of key for all platforms instead of two (and until 1996 three when supporting the Atari).
The serial adapter was PC-only and was used until Logic 5.x was introduced. This is why the 4.x dongle emulator is unable to work with Logic 5.x.

There might be some kind of way to use the Logic 5.x PC crack on the Mac (at least the code that emulated the license).

Dongle for pre-5.x Logic on PC (using the serial standard):

Dongle used for Emagic Logic 5.x and Logic 6.x Gold/Silver/Platinum:

Dongle used for Apple Logic 7.x and in some cases for 6.x (when called Logic Pro 6 instead of Logic Audio Silver/Gold/Platinum 6):

the adb dongle is the one that is emulated with the working 4.x crack i believe.
+ they never could emulate the 5.x usb key

Or they never tried hard enough... The PC version of Logic 5 was cracked pretty much directly when it came out.

I was wrong, and Knez right. The dongle Knez posted for "pre-5.x" is the one I got for Logic (with ADB for sure, not the PC version). The microguard one I got (and why I mixed it up with my Logic dongle) that Chris posted above is for an "Hermstedt LeoShare" that I have as well around.

Hopefully I will be able to test Logic tomorrow.

I have a 9-pin serial Dongle that works with old Windows machines. I wonder if I could possibly use this on an old Mac with an ADB port if I could find some kind of db9-ADB adapter cable. I'm unsure if a Windows dongle would also authorize a Mac version, but if my two USB XS Keys are any indication, it'll work. Both my v.5 Platinum key and my v.7 Pro key work with either Windows or Mac.

syntho
i wouldnt extend the logic (pardon the pun)
of the usb keys working and apply it to the windows only dongle
things were very different and unstandardized back in the dark mid-early 90s (lol)
if u have a db9 dongle
theres a good chance it will be useless for a mac
especialy since theres no way to connect it
dont bother gettin a cable
thats my 2 cents
theres little to no chance that it will work

but again i have to wonder why u are so adamantly against the working dongle crack
that works like a fucking charm... and is not really too much of a pain in the ass to click before u start the app
in exchange for it to work without a dongle id say its a pretty good trade off

re: multiple dongles for midi vs audio
thats the first ive heard of that idea

I wonder if there's a way to check the version of an ADB Dongle. The USB ones can be checked with that utility enabler posted. I've got a set of Logic 2.5 ADB Dongles and I'd like to take a look at its contents somehow.
