Development Books
« on: March 06, 2017, 08:51:18 AM »

Hi All,

I'm looking for some solid books / tutorials for development.

PDF is fine. Paperback w/ link on amazon/ebay is fine too.

Any feedback on MPW vs Codewarrior is welcome, too. I'm finding that I dislike both of them for various reasons, but assume it is because I am unfamiliar with them both.

Thanks!

I can't really recommend any books.
But if you have done development and you are familiar with XCode or Visual Studio on windows, CodeWarrior will probably be easier for you to learn.

If your familiar with unix command line stuff then MPW will be easier to learn.

I personally would recommend MPW as I feel it gives a lot more flexibility and tools for developing Mac apps.
It does have a very steep learning curve, but once you get it, it's pretty powerful.

It also depends on what language you want to use as well.

Are there any good tutorials on MPW? I'm fine with the command line route :)

I know I have seen a few books, but I've never used any. I've just gone based on the built in help for each tool that comes with MPW and just making simple tests to see the outcomes.
I know I've looked for a few and there was an MPW reference book from Apple that looked pretty promising, but I wasn't willing to pay $50 for it.
