Setting up Win98 virtual machine in 9.2.2
« on: August 04, 2015, 06:25:25 PM »

Hey folks,

Using VPC 6 thats hosted on the site, run into a couple issues.

The upgrade to 6.1.2 did not work for me using the 6.0 install provided. Highest up I could update was to 6.1.1 (using the mac garden link), anyone else have any luck?

Other issue I'm having is locating additional windows drivers that came supplied with the original VPC, likely as an ISO labelled VPCAdditions011123.iso . People seem to refer to this image as being located in a 'content/resources' page but I can't find this. Is that specific to osx? prompt for install of drivers popped up after a while, was able to install. USB still not working but i will keep messing with it.

Hoping these extra drivers will enable the USB plug and play between the Virtual Machine and os9.

thanks in advance!

No help here but I'm interested in trying that out too and will be following your progress!

Use 'parallels'/ Win98 on a OS X laptop on occasion and it DOES come in handy! ;D

Virtual PC is only suitable for Windows 2K or XP. For virtualizing Windows 98, FWB SoftWindows 98

http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/softwindows-98

is way better, because some key parts of Windows 98 were compiled to native PPC code, so it can achieve a great speed improvement!

As suggested in other posts, running a Virtual XP machine or Win98 machine, is a great way to run the PC only keygens included with some of the Mac downloads.

Also, it is always recommended, that once you make a clean windows HD Image to back it up, that way if you run a bad keygen (with a virus payload) and it infects your virtual machine you simply delete the HD file and copy the clean HD image file from the backup and you have a perfect running virtual machine up and running in 2 to 3 minutes.  (This is also the recommended setup for those who are addicted to internet porn, it can create a bullet proof surfing virtual machine... simply restore the good HD image file)
