Is there any way to make OS 9 look like OS 7?
« on: April 23, 2015, 05:34:01 AM »

Hi everyone,

I'm kinda the new guy here, so I hope this topic is in the right spot. ^^'

So, yes, like the topic title suggests I was wondering if there is any way to make Mac OS 9 look more like Mac OS 7? I tried looking in the "Appearance" window but the only theme select able is the Platinum one that is standard with OS 9, I'm not even sure if there ever was a theme that recreated the 7 look, I would already be satisfied if I could switch between a "white" Platinum theme and the regular one to be honest.
Unfortunately I'm still rather new to using OS 9 (or any Mac OS Version older than X) in general, so I don't really know how or where to start when it comes to making a simple color-swap theme like this.

Do any of you perhaps have a suggestion of what I could try?

Install and set the theme to "Mac OS 7" in appearance manager :)

oh btw, you could of course also use kaleidoscope. it works stable with OS9, and operates faster than the appearance amanager extension.
the only drawback is that it might cause some minor drawing issues with certain applications such as the toolbox windows in macromedia editors.

Thanks for posting what I intially thought was a silly question. But it seems I've underestimated the value of the Appearance Manager. Amazing what you can still learn!

I've always thought System 7 was the best looking OS ever, and since OS8 those 3D folder icons have annoyed me!

If you're a multi Mac OS user, you might now forget what OS you're actually using. What I do is have a different background colour for each OS as a visual reminder. I use the shades of Bondi - the darker the shade, the later the OS.

i´d use different background pictures for every volume, so you always know where you are. :)
