i like that this has 4pin molex .. alot of them use the smaller floppy drive power connector

im wondering about the speeds..
its obviously going to be capped at ATA133 or ATA100..
but this is a cool thing man! especially with how cheap SD is to buy

In Short: slow.
The SDs are very slow. Only around 10 or 15 Mb/sec. can be achieved.
Ok, if you have one of those High Speed SDs you can achieve 30Mb/sec. the speed of ATA 33 LOL!

tbh what im looking for (right now as im typing this anyway) is the fastest small drive possible (between 512MB + 2GB) over IDE

i guess the best would be FLASH-IDE DOM 2GB
but i liked this idea of being able to easily swap drives

Speed Class Ratings

Since card manufacturers almost always only give you burst read and write speeds instead of sustained speeds, it can be difficult to pick out a card for video. Many new 4K-capable cameras write at very high bitrates, and if you plan on recording video for longer than a few seconds, the burst speed doesn’t help much. Also, there can be huge variations between the maximum burst read speeds and the minimum sustained write speeds of different cards. It’s not a simple ratio. To determine the minimum write speed of a card, you need to look at its speed-class rating. A speed-class rating means that the card has been verified to never write slower than a card in its classification. Some cards may write a lot faster, especially since the fastest speed class is currently just 30 MB/s, but you can be comfortable knowing that any card with a speed-class rating will never write slower than that speed. Some popular speed class ratings used on SD cards today are:

    U3- Minimum 30 MB/s Read
    U1- Minimum 10 MB/s Read
    Class 10- Minimum 10 MB/s Read

Yes, the CF cards are usually faster than a SDs.

I'm not sure that those Ux speed cards really work at Ux speed in this IDE SD adapters ... (The Ux speed SDs can work in a slow "compatible mode")

These folks record in PT with ultra quick micro SD cards.

If you use one of these cards and do not achieve 44 Mb/s there should be a bottleneck in the microSD to SD converter or in the SD to IDE converter. Let's take a deeper look on the converters:

Maybe is quicker (but with higher cost) go from IDE to SATA and from SATA to SD

Yes, I know they do not run OS9, but we can extrapolate what is the best SD (or microSD) to use them in a OS9 DAW.

in the above examples.
the SD card is much faster then the 4gb compact fash..
the g3 takes up to 1.5 min to boot mac os 9 from the compact flash

but the mac mini + windows laptop
boot easily in under 45 seconds  from the SD 30MB/s card
and thats booting wink2 & mac os X leopard!!!

not sure what speed of compact flash he had there but it is not amazing thats for sure

im trying to find now.. the smallest FASTEST compact flash...
it seems 8gb is the smallest that Lexar makes...
im wondering if anyone else knows of a brand that makes a super fast 2gb or 4gb compact flash... other then lexar?

this one claims the following speeD:
Max. Read Speed: 120MB/s
Max. Write Speed: 45MB/s

with our experience we know we can only really expect 70% of this speed
in real life use...
so this may be a good fit because
= 70% * 120
= 0.7 * 120
= 84

84 mb/s consistant speed would be really great speed read over ATA for me

the write speed..
= 70% * 45
= 0.7 * 45
= 31.5
31 mb/s write would be **ok**

well i got my adapter and one thing to note here..
i ordered one that was on a pci bracket..
so i tried to put it in the computer.. (pc or mac)
and it DOESNT FIT PHSYICALLY
the ide connector comes into contact with the pci slot itself and as a result
u cant screw the pci bracket in..
ive requested a return..
stupid e-bay moron sellers
 

whoever designed the pci bracket to go with this sd card is obviously a moron..
or its intended to go in a slot where there is no pci slot at all..

it probably works and i can take it off the pci bracket but the whole pt of getting it with the bracket was to have it properly
mounted and able to swap the sd cards from the rear pci bracket
