pentium II ... similar performance to G3? not a chance..
pentium III similar performance to G4 .. benchmark wise yes, but software performance better on mac
pentium 4 similar performance to G5 .. both of these werent so great...power hungry + overheating
pentium D started to outperform the G5..this is when steve jobs started to freak out and make plans to switch ?

Core2Duo release date, powerpc's days were done, new imacs came all in white + intel cpus, birth of the "mac pro"

intel won the race because intel kept evolving... powerpc hit a wall somehow + stopped getting developed.. whos to blame? motorola? ibm? *shrug*
this is reason enough to remember to always keep learning new things;)
thanks for that offtopic protools guy:P
offtopicguy should be his name:)
attached image is a screenshot of my benchmarks done by me personally..
showing pentiumIII1.4ghz coming in just under the single mdd 1.25ghz
and the pentium 4 531/630 coming in just above the g5 single 1.8ghz
i wish i had a better g5 in my collection this one is on the lower end of the g5 scale but it is a more
fair comparison as they are all single processor models and the g5's that followed all had cooling issues
(like they were pushing the chip to its extremes to get the benchmarks higher then intel)
i have a chance to get a g5 2.0ghz FX model
http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/search?dir=desc&q=frequency%3A2000+processor%3APowerPC+G5+%28970FX%29++&sort=scorethe fastest bench of this model is 1850 or so, but this is a dual cpu score
also, really im forgetting that the g5 pci-express models (MP Cpu)
were actually alot more powerful then the previous models (FX + 970) (but fx models were only ones to have stealth port addon)
-MP:
http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/search?dir=desc&q=Processor%3APowerPC+G5+%28970MP%29&sort=score^^ this score is the highest ever recorded for a powerpc cpu i think
-FX:
http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/search?dir=desc&q=Processor%3APowerPC+G5+%28970FX%29&sort=score970:
http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/search?dir=desc&q=Processor%3APowerPC+G5+%28970%29&sort=scorea (dual cpu) score of 3700 is alot more powerful then alot of entry level core2duo chips
(even if its comparing dual cpu to single cpu) that score from a (2005) computer is stronger then the score of my macbook air (2010)
imagine mac os 9 on a powermac g5 pci-express model? now that would be the world protoolsguy is dreaming of
but of course this is VERY OFFTOPIC!

thanks to protoolsleguy for making me look at benchmarks agian (lol)
we should look instead : the highest score ever recorded for g4/mdd cpu:
7455:
http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/search?dir=desc&q=Processor%3APowerPC+G4+%287445%2F7455%29&sort=scoreNov 19, 2008 Power Mac G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors) PowerPC G4 (7445/7455) 1500 2 Mac OS X 32-bit 2339
thats one fast MDD:) alot faster then my mdd single 1.25ghz score.. which was only 779??
how can it be so much faster then my mdd? 2339!! thats almost 3 times my score.. even if its dual cpu vs single cpu
1.5ghz? which cpu is this?
