Here is the waves CD I have.

I most likely I judged Waves poorly.
We parted ways early.
In 99' when I got Waves it was too bulky for Yikes G4 350.
and I have never used it since.

Gave DieHard a copy of this when we visited in person.
Can upload if it help anyone.

Here it is waves v4.0r4 installer image:
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/t7jvi9xs9e3xp/Waves_4.0r4_OSX_%26_OS9

This image was made with Snow Leoard so you will need a modern OS to mount the image
then copy the files to a Mac OS9 flash drive or over a network to you old machine

hard to believe that someone who was using TDM did not have waves plug-ins, waves was like 40% of the plug-in market in these days and basically why you bought protools. :P

Hi, I'm running Waves 5.0 C1 Compressor in demo mode in Logic Pro on my Mac G5 OSX 10.4.11 (no iLok required). Had to reinstall the C1 after replacing a faulty Mac HD, but after re-installing the C1 re-authorization is now impossible - Waves Tech Support can't help, demo is about to expire.

Any help will be much appreciated!  :D  Thank you. Best, Dave

I thought that era was iLok ?

Was the original authorization a "challenge" then "response" ?

The OSX Version of the ASR would most likely have preserved it on the old HD :(

Try the "freezer" hard drive trick and clone it

About 30 to 40% of the time, put a "bad" hard drive in the freezer (for about 45 min) and if you continue to put ice packs on it as it is connected to the computer you can usually clone it, the cold contracts the metal and thus if it's a motor spin up issue (and some other issues)... these guys say it no longer works...
https://www.pcworld.com/article/419677/that-old-freezer-trick-to-save-a-hard-drive-doesnt-work-anymore.html

But I have taken modern (spinning) drives and have had success about 3 out of 10, at least enough to get most of the data.

Also, this video is pretty much the exact method we use here if we hear an "attempted spin up" and we remove the cover...

Thanks DieHard.

>I thought that era was iLok ?
Waves switched to the iLok hardware key shortly after I bought the Waves 5.0 C1 compressor in 2008.

>Was the original authorization a "challenge" then "response" ?
Yes. I still have the challenge code, but Waves Tech Support say they're unable to generate a response as they've abandoned the PACE authorization system used in 2008 and have no other means to authorize the software.

The OSX Version of the ASR would most likely have preserved it on the old HD :(
>What does 'ASR' mean please, and where would I look for it? Actually I can still read a bunch of Waves files from the old faulty HD, which we managed to transfer and then successfully re-install the C1. Sadly, it timed out after 14 days :{

Try the "freezer" hard drive trick and clone it

ASR is the command-line Apple Software Restore tool.
[blockquote]DESCRIPTION
asr efficiently copies disk images onto volumes, either directly or via a
multicast network stream.  asr can also accurately clone volumes without
the use of an intermediate disk image.[/blockquote]

About 30 to 40% of the time, put a "bad" hard drive in the freezer (for about 45 min) and if you continue to put ice packs on it as it is connected to the computer you can usually clone it, the cold contracts the metal and thus if it's a motor spin up issue (and some other issues)... these guys say it no longer works...

But I have taken modern (spinning) drives and have had success about 3 out of 10, at least enough to get most of the data.
I think for a long time, the drives were designed so that the heads "parked" on the surface, which led to the problem of stiction (the platters can't spin if the heads are sticking to them). Freezing was a way to un-stick the heads (also tapping with a mallet). On newer drives I've seen inside there is a plastic ramp that loads/unloads the heads and they don't touch the surface. Sometimes it's this plastic ramp that is sticky or bent preventing head load (but the platters still spin up).
