im having some trouble getting halion to run. ive downloaded  + burned the cd.. no problems during install.. no problems starting cubase. then i try to load the vsti.. and it just hangs..

ok wait its not hanging its jsut taking a long ass time to load... it loaded i was able to play keys.. with whatever default patch but now ive tried to bring up the gui by pressing edit on the vsti panel..and its frozen or appears frozen now again.. midi keyboard no longer triggering notes... mouse cursor still moving.. but nothing is responding... looks like im stuck:D

perhaps halion is too much for my little g4 450mhz?

Maybe.
I haven't big issues with Cubase VST 5 and Halion 1.1/2.0

[suspicious]It does both. You'll have to download the updates 203pb2 and install them with disk in drive. Do not install off disk.

Here try this in OS9. Check attached.[/suspicious]

a little update on this.. i just ran halion last nite on ableton live v4.14 and it worked 100% took about 12 seconds to load but after that worked great.. no latency nothing..... so whatever was happening before about freezing the whole computer + Requiring a reboot.. that was only under cubase vst 32 v5.x
not sure what was the reason but it didnt have this result last nite.. and its the exact same install because i havent reinstalled since the first time i tried
on this sawtooth 450mhz agp.

"Mac users need OS 9 on at least a 250MHz 604e with 128Mb of RAM, though a G3 or better is recommended

was halion one (v1.0) basically buggy on every platform?
ive had problems with it on pc aswell as on mac....
on the pc version if i press a few notes fast it stops making sound and then i have to remove the vst + readd it to get it to work again..that was in ableton.. and in cubase.. i got a complete crash saying that it made some type of error... on mac g4 os9 i remember it would lock my complete system..

so is the rule of thumb
halion 1 = dont even bother using it?
halion 2 = good to go?

And yes, unfortunately The halion 2 install CD image in the download section is Os X only.
But FORTUNATELY it can be used to authorize a Mac OS 9 installation!  ;D

This Halion CD image must be recorded to a real CD. And mounted on the CD drive before or during the installation process.

The Mac Os 9 HALion Installer, can be placed wherever you want.

Yep my fault - should've inserted quotes from lokki's comment.
Let me clarify for peace sake  :D

My comment - It does both -
meaning both OSX & OS9

My comment - You'll have to download the updates 203pb2 and install them with disk in drive.
meaningdownload update from Steinbergs Website which for OS9 is a public beta named HALion_203pb2 - which I supplied as an attachment to the post - then insert the CD that you have written from the image supplied by Macos9Lives and install Halion from the downloaded file you got from Steinberg.

My comment - Do not install off disk.
meaning that do not try to use any of the installs on the disk in the disk drive for the installation - they will not work properly and cause alot of problems later. The downloaded file from Steinberg is all you need to get a fully functional Halion 2 running in MacOS9. Click on the downloaded file and it will verify Halion from the CD then install Halion v2. You can later grab the Halion Demo files and sampler files off the disk and put them on your hard drive after installation of the program.

My comment - Here try this in OS9. Check attached.
meaning I have attached the last known update version to my post so why not check it out and chillaaaax!!! -afro-

PEACE Brothers!!

I've just installed Halion 2 on my G4 as per the above instructions. The plugin shows up in Cubase VST 5 and seems to load, but clicking the "edit" button causes it to hang the whole machine - requiring a reboot. Any ideas?

only idea i had would be not enough RAM assigned to cubase. but that would be pure coincidence, because the GUI should not require more than a few 100kb.
