Disable startup RAM test
Every time you boot your trusty Mac OS 9, the Mac secretly performs a startup memory test. Depending on how much RAM you have installed, this might take a while. If you want to noticably improve startup times (rhetoric question!), press and hold the command key ("Apple key") while opening the control panel "memory".
This will give you a normally hidden option which allows to disable the startup memory test.
