Create Alias with key combo
Ever since Mac OS 8 you can create a duplicate of a file by pressing & holding the option (alt) key while moving the object to its destination folder. If you additionally keep the command (apple) key pressed, you'll not create a 1:1 copy of the file, but an alias pointing to the original instead. Using the key combo is much faster than going through the Apple menu.
