symphonic orchestra 5 dvd set seems to be complete.

But I have already tested the first one. The library comes in a compressed (and/or encrypted ) file, the DVD contains a installer and must be installed into a windows machine. The instruments have an exb. extension and the samples .ebl . CdXtract can't open (nor convert) them,


... but Extreme Sampler Converter and ChickenSys Translator can.

The best option is to download the E-MU originals, and each one of us, convert them to its preferred sampler format. Even in Mac Os 9 we are not agree on a format to choose, some may prefer Halion, others EXS or Kontakt, others Sampletank, SoundFont, Reason etc ...

Are some conversion targets a downgrade in terms of quality?

It depends on the source. If the source instrument is simple and basic, the SoundFont or Sampletank format will be enough. If the instruments are complex like this Modern Symphonic Orchestra, (with Key Switches, Round Robin, etc) it must be converted to Kompakt/Kontakt.
... OK, Halion or EXS can be used also, but at its own risk ...  LOL

im trying to find this one - it has a particularly lovely piano

 The Ensoniq ZR SoundFont is a collection of multiple instruments that were included with the ZR76 keyboard. Ensoniq sound designers used the content that had been collected for the samplers. Special note - A Kawai 9ft Grand has been substituted for the Perfect Piano due to license restrictions.

Only Kawai for me.

Yamaha => too bright.
Steinway => nose sound.
Bosendorfer => too dark.
Fazioli => dark and nose sound.

So we have to find this piano ...
BTW, we already have some Kawai around here ... can you guess where they are? In my Custom 32Gb Kompakt Library we have the Wizoo Kawai ( it was available in Halion Format in our old FTP server, but I don't know where I have placed the original CD    ) . This piano is also available as a VST plugins with the name of Steinberg The Grand.

hmm i forgot this drive has usb2.0 too.. 

these e-mu samples may not be the best but what i like about them the most is that they are historical.. in that they were used for many songs
that were released in the 90s and late 80s having the same sounds as what was on the hardware units released from 1987 onwards

dude? he JUST SAID that he has successfully tested with chicken systems translator + Xtreme sample converter..
so those are the only ones he has tested..

why dont YOU test CDExtract for mac os 9? (i posted this in a thread its the same as the osx version it works in both)

cdextract should work for the "Classic series" ones... (which are in emu native sampler format)
and any other "akai format" or "ensoniq format" sample cds in hardware sampler format

Yes, it will work if you record it to real CD previously ( using both the .bin and .cue files usually ). But I'm talking about EMU-X format ( .exb ), the format of the E-MU Modern Synphonic Orchestra.

as i suspected the E-mu EIIIX was one of the first Samplers to feature BUILT IN SCSI for attaching an external SCSI CDROM DRIVE frm which to read these samples
which is why they made these classic series cds

I've made a few test with this E-MU Modern Symphonic Orchestra, and I have found that really sounds good.
Most instruments are not chromatically sampled and with few (or only one) velocity layers but it's a 10 GB library with the instruments very well organised.
It is superior than Garritan SO and inferior than Vienna SO. It sits comfortable between EWQLSO Silver and EWQLSO Gold in terms of quality.

Could you describe approx. the weight of Garritan SO, Vienna SO, EWQLSO silver and gold ? I mean GB per library. We know some libraries weight more that them worth... And others, surprisingly with low GB sound great.
