Sorry I missed your messages and haven't revisited as my iMac has been packed over the last year and a bit due to several moves. I'll try look at this again in the weekend and hopefully shed some light on the other issues too. Fingers crossed my iMac boots, I'm pretty sure the caps are bad  :-\
