Looking for Pro Tools HD 7.4
« on: January 23, 2025, 05:09:28 PM »

Hello, has anybody got the .dmg for HD 7.4?

I had an old drive fail and lost a lot of old installers. I asked on the DUC forum but nada.

Avid archive links are all broken.

Cheers

Shea.

Have you asked G-Sharp on DUC-AVID? He might have the installers.

Someone out there has to have the files, just finding that person who has access to them.

Ahem. Isn't PT 7.x.x a OSX PPC and Intel territory? And, didn't TDM version use iLok? If so, and you have it, just contact Avid. iLok is a proof of ownership. ;)

Anyway, searching my archives produced these hits.
ptle71cs6.dmg
ptle71cs7.dmg
ptle71cs10_31535.dmg
ProTools LE 7.3 Mac-Win.zip (1.92 GB)
ptle731cs7_50585.zip
ptle731cs8_57257.dmg
pro_tools_le_v742_49827.dmg (322 MB)
ptle742cs4update_61283.dmg
ptle74cs10pdate_61286.dmg

Pro Tools HD starting around 7.0 made the license move from Serial to iLok. There is a seller online who has HD 7.3/7.4 licenses, but there doesn't seem to be an installer anywhere.

Pro Tools LE 7 afaik was still based on serial activation, but not sure on that. Getting this era of Pro Tools up and running has become increasingly hard to achieve due to a lack of resources supporting it.

This is the 7.4.2 cs4 update linky:
https://media.digidesign.com/support/compressed/pthd742cs4update_61282.dmg

UPD. and 7.4.2 cs10:
http://media.digidesign.com/support/compressed/pthd74cs10pdate_61285.dmg

The dmgs have .pkg files, which can be installed/extracted using Pacifist. Some symlinks need to be fixed or recreated.

EDIT. It's not that easy as I thought. Several frameworks are also missing. Those were probably installed by full installer. But it's worth a try.

UPD 2. These are links to full installers, but they result in 403 error. You have to be logged in at Avid, to download, I guess.
http://media.digidesign.com/support/secured/pro_tools_hd_v74_41951.dmg
http://media.digidesign.com/support/secured/pro_tools_hd_v742_50120.dmg

P.S. I can not imagine how it's possible that nobody at DUC have these or at least can download them. Same applies to someone with an iLok.

Documentation
Most of the Pro Tools 7.4.x documentation is NOT INCLUDED with the Pro Tools 7.4.2 web installers, in order to greatly reduce the overall size of those downloads. If you are installing Pro Tools 7.4.2 over a previous installation of 7.4, then you may already have all of the 7.4.x documents other than the Pro Tools 7.4.2 Read Me. If you are installing Pro Tools 7.4.2 without a previous installation of Pro Tools 7.4, then you will need to also download and run the Pro Tools 7.4.x Documentation Installer for your system:

I did IT support for a small recording studio some time ago and I did install Pro Tools there.
So I looked in my archives and found Pro Tools HD 7.4 & 7.4.2.
I think 7.4 is the last for Tiger and 7.4.2 is Leopard only.

I uploaded them (and some cs Updates) to the Hotline Server.

Someone on DUC Avid has been asking around for a 7.4.1 installer (which I think 7.4.2 in your archive includes the patch for supporting 8 core Intel Mac Pros), do you have that one in your archive by chance?

Greatly appreciate this upload!

The later Digidesign website architecture was clearly more complex, and as expected, the Wayback Machine didn’t archive it as effectively as it did the earlier, simpler, and less security-hardened versions.

That said, we're grateful for what we have in Mac OS 9 territory—7.4 is firmly in OS X land anyway.

For reference:
https://web.archive.org/web//http://download.digidesign.com/support/*

Also, I finally figured out that to get the Wayback Machine to refresh or reprocess the wildcard query, you need to manually tweak the asterisks (*) in the URL from the browser’s address bar. Just hitting enter doesn’t always trigger a new lookup unless the query string changes.

No worries. We have better support here on macos9lives than we do on DUC Avid.
