Second internal HDD on G3 Wallstreet possible?
« on: July 09, 2021, 04:44:03 AM »

I am new on old Mac topic and what I'm searching for is a second internal HDD for my Powerbook G3 Wallstreet.

Because the System drive - HDD 2 gb size - is a little bit small, but I won't upgrade this drive to bigger HDD.

I'm using too PC-Card Slots with CF (16gb HFS+ formated), but this seems not to be a full functional drive... Sometimes i have Data-writing-problems to the CF and also bidirectional Drag and Drop / Copying with CF doesn't work.

So, the best solution i think could be a HDD module for the 3,5" expansion bay or somethink like that. - Is this kind of device existing??

thank you

The Wallstreet optical drives are all IDE electrically but a usable connector is never exposed at any point, unlike the later modules used on the Lombard/Pismo. Third party modules may be different but are very rare.

The way the IDE bus is arranged, it might be possible to add a slave drive on the main hard drive's bus, perhaps using something like this. But there's no guarantee the OS knows to look there at all so that's open to experimentation.
