Title: Games?
Post by: Graveyard on November 20, 2013, 11:04:43 PM
I was just wondering if any of you guys know any places where one might find some games to add to my collection. I have gotten over the years all the games i could get my hands on. You might get the hint that these games didn't come on their original media. But nevertheless most of them can't be found on the web anymore. It's especially hard to come by things like this here in my country. Software and hardware here in Romania has some of the highest prices i've seen in the entire EU. Especially when it comes to Apple related stuff. That is if you can find any Mac software in any store. Most of the emplyees look at you like they've seen a ghost when you ask for Mac compatible software. Most of them don't even know that Apple makes computers, even though they have iPhones and iPads on their shelves.
Anyway, i have never sold any copies of the games i got. I used all of them just for my own enjoyment. I don't know if that is an excuse but as i said, if that's the only way to get them, so be it.
So, to put things short, i was wondering if you guys know any other sites where i can get some older games besides macintoshgarden. I've already "devoured" that one. :P
I hope i didn't break any forum rules here.
Thank you in advance.

Firstly, we are not hung up on rules, so don't worry about that... I will see if I can find some games in the archives that are not in the Garden  ;)

As far as your quote... you would absolutely die if you saw the the stuff I see go to the scrapyard/crusher here in SoCal (Southern California).
I just ran into a guy last month that said his company scraped 14 PowerMac G4s complete (with RAM and drives) for $200....hmmm, that's like .35 a pound or $14.30 per Tower.

Makes you wonder how long it will be before all the PPC systems are turned into land fill  :(

I made a hobby and a small personal business out of reconditioning old computers. Especially Macs. I die a little inside when i hear about people throwing out computers that are still working just because it's no use to them at that moment. I have donated quite a few computers that i have brought back to life, to some families here in the town i live in. They couldn't afford a new computer and since i had a few available, why shouldn't i lend a hand.
I really would beat the crap out of the guys i saw on youtube destroying some old macs.

Anyway, regarding the games. Thanks a lot, and i can't wait to get my hands on them.
I have an entire collection of consoles that i do gaming on once in a while, but i just love the oldschool games i know i can find on the Mac. And to tell you the truth, all the people that buy a refurbished Mac from me, ask me if i have any games on the thing. Since most of them end up being used by kids, it's great to see them play the original unreal tournament, shadow warrior (one of my favourites), duke nukem, or stuff like that. I even had a small gathering a few weeks ago at my place. I played carmageddon using 2 G3 iMacs and my dual g4 along with another b&w powermac g3. My wife had to end it all because at 11 o'clock at night, it's not quite allright to yell at the computer after your car gets trashed...

Any news on the games front? I am currently on the job of preparing my 2 G3 iMacs for my wife. She gives english lessons at home. I want to configure them so they can be controlled over the ethernet from another "workstation". I have found a few educational programs, but they aren't that great. She teaches english to kids ranging from 8-9 years old to 18. I really would apreciate your help guys. I know you use your os9 machines for professional audio-video stuff, but there are a few of us out here that grew up with Macs and also need a hand. Don't get me wrong, because i am not complaining. But since it's a MacOS 9 forum, could you guys do a bit more than talk about sound editing software? Please, with a cherry on top (that was my wife)...
Anyway, i am looking for programs that i haven't found on the web. I have a few coloring books that are also interactive and i know the kids will like them, a few programs that use the computer's voice to teach them spelling in english... If you have any others that might help us here, please give me the title if you can't upload them here.
PS: i am really having a hard time trying to convince my wife to use the 2 iMacs... :P but that's another story.
Thank you in advance.

The stuff I have is for very young ages 2 thru 6... I have a few adventure type games like...

Thrilride Pinball, Little Mermaid, Freddy Fish, Pajama Sam (ages 5 thru eight) and a few others... but nothing exceptional

Please be a little more specific and I will try to look for you... I do not have any "learn / spell" english, but I do have some beginner learn to read games

Those would be great too. I don't have something specific in mind. I am just thinking about making my wife's lessons more fun by introducing these computers into the equation. I have no real use for them and i would hate to let them go to waste when i know that the kids would be thrilled to work on them when they come for their lessons.

Fun fact is that my wife already introduced an element of fun by letting the kids watch cartoons without any kind of translation into romanian, at the end of the lessons. But as i said before, they would be even more intersted in learning if they would do things on a computer. You know how kids are. Curious about everything.

I already have every single thing on that list. I actually have the full versions of those demos around here somewhere. Thank you anyway.
I went to meet with 2 fellow mac users in Bucharest this weekend. I came back with about 200+ discs and magazines. Most of them are old editions of MacWorld UK from 1998 to 2003. Lots of old apps and game demos. Now all i have to do is get the time to try them out.
Anyway, if you have any others you can share, please do. I get the feeling that i'm gonna need a few more hard drives :))
