Title: Sonorus 16 channel digital pci card (2x adat!!)

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Sonorus-Plug-in-Studi-o-16-channel-digital-audio-interface-for-PC-and-Mac-/231485905930?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35e5a29c0a

this could be realy usefull to someone
the auction says she has 10+ units available ..
this is for the complete package with manuals + adat cables
but u can find a cheaper option to get just the card (if u already have adat cables + Dont care about original packaging etc)

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Sonorus-Studi-o-PCI-digital-audio-interface-for-PC-and-MAC-/231504788747?&_trksid=p2056016.m2518.l4276

this card works with all mac os 9 software...
the way i see it being the biggest benefit would be to buy a complete package to get teh cables and then an additional bare card and u can  get 16 tracks digital i/o between 2 macs!!!! for a completely digital setup...

wow! what a deal

*Maybe*  this is the best option for doing  VST remote ...

For VST lovers, RME Hammerfall is one of the best. Also MOTU is on the Podium.

for the cost of 2 cards.. acheiving 16 seperate channels digitally from one machine to another... this is an insane value
ie: i would like to run reason or ableton live on one machine
and then pro tools / cubase etc on the other.. the REAL version of "rewire" minus all the bulllshit;)

on machine for production and one for recording/mixing

Just bought one! To be honest, a little bit disappointed in the fact that is OS8.6-9 only (?).

it would be cool to have one of those sonnorus adat cards to link to a digi 001..

I just bought that cheap Sonorus.  ;D
(http://www.sonorus.com/studio.jpg)
First april should come to my house. D/A converters is very low bits (18 bit if IIRC), but It would make a fine ADAT server. For a Logic 6 DAW as sample-server in my 866 Dual MDD with 2 Gig RAM and a Audiomedia3. Previously I used to connect that MDD  with SPDIF.

I will test in OS9 Logic Vs Cubase Vs Digital Performer.

*Maybe*  this is the best option for doing  VST remote ...

How would you make a VST remote?

I am interested in EXSP24-kontakt-halion with this card and a Edirol UM-1EX on a Dual 866 MDD. Logic 6 would be my natural choice, but I am intrigued by the strength of same setup with Cubase/DigitalPerformer

Also wondering if there is a Audio-only DSP realtime solution to use the sonorus as a ADAT multieffect.

It seems to offer various drivers to work

Version 14 http://web.archive.org/web/19990203010626/http://sonorus.com/drivers.html (http://web.archive.org/web/19990203010626/http://sonorus.com/drivers.html)

Version 18 (latest) http://web.archive.org/web/19991006062053/http://sonorus.com/drivers.html (http://web.archive.org/web/19991006062053/http://sonorus.com/drivers.html)
With those drivers the card can handle 96kHz! http://web.archive.org/web/20000601083437/http://www.sonorus.com/audio/daw9624.html (http://web.archive.org/web/20000601083437/http://www.sonorus.com/audio/daw9624.html)

I hope it can support S-MUX. It could be perfect to connect it to my other DAW with Focusrite LS56

Together, we have developed 24 bit, 96 kHz software drivers for Sonorus STUDI/O card and appropriate ADAT lightpipe 24 bit, 96 kHz interface daughter card for our 8X96 ADC and DAC. The result is DAW 9624TM -- very high performance 8+ channel, 24-bit, 96 kHz DAW hardware package, an open hardware platform capable of running most of audio software available today. Sonorus STUDI/O is equipped with two 24-bit ADAT lightpipes that can be configured to carry 16 channels of 24-bit, 48 (or 44.1) kHz or 8 channels of 24-bit, 96 (or 88.2) kHz audio.

It seems to support 88.2 and 96!

How would you make a VST remote?

It is only possible with two computers running Cubase s 5.2 each one ... AFAIK.

At this time, my Main DAW has the Focusrite SL56 and PT9 and that is synced to my dual 866 MDD with PT 5.2.1LE, an AM3 and a roland UM 1Ex USB midi. The audio "jack" is an SPDIF RCA cable (5mts) to the output of the AM3 to the SPDIF in on the LS56. I plan to use ADAT to connect them both. Or use the SONORUS as my master ADAT clock. I am not sure if the clock of the SONORUS is better or worst than the Focusrite LS56. That is the good thing, I can choose who is the master clock. Maybe if Diehard knows about both clocks designs can tell me the better option.

My DIGI 001 is with my DA GHz dual on other room were my wife plays RPG and I practice guitar, play with RMX to make loops, etc. But anytime it can be added to the "Room A" 2 DAWs. The LS56 has 2 ADAT outs and one can feed the SONORUS and the other ADAT to the 001 while making SPDIF to my Guillemot ISIS...  ;D

How would you make a VST remote?

It is only possible with two computers running Cubase s 5.2 each one ... AFAIK.

I call a VST remote a computerized Muse research 's Receptor version...

I do not mean to say the VST link designed by Steinberg to add multiple DAWs
https://www.steinberg.net/nc/es/support/knowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/vst-system-link-vsl.html (https://www.steinberg.net/nc/es/support/knowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/vst-system-link-vsl.html)

Any hardware with a midi in and audio outputs that let you play Virtual Instruments.

I want 8 stereo audio steams from the MDD. Halion, kontakt, EXS-24 and Plugsound, all loaded in a Logic 6 session.  I was thinking if maybe DP or Cubase would allow me to run more instances of them (more voices) than a VI project on Logic 6.x.

Since Logic 4.x eMagic said it can take advantage ot the altivec engine and the multiple processors. At the load of logic 4-6 it says that.

I am based on my old EXS24 sound, and I am not sure of the EXSP24 behaviour on DP and Cubase...

Just received mine. The seller has send me the original box + 2 adat 2m cables+ original CD + registration paper.

The drivers are just a folder mean to be dropped on the ASIO drivers folder on every DAW.

I thought there would be a control panel or something like that.

It has caught my atention that it has a firmware update for users with more than 1 soundcard based on motorola 56301
Quote
Firmware updater:

Run StudioUpdateROM to update the firmware in your board. This will allow you to use other 56301-based boards in the same machine, such as Kyma™, Layla/Darla/Gina, Digidesign PT-Project and PT-Mix.

I have an Audiomedia III on the MDD too and that is based on Motorola 56002 FC 66
(http://www.coutant.org/protools/am3card.jpg)

I guess the firmware was applied, or that is not incompatible.

Only 2 ADAT 2m cables, but all the stuff for the price of the bulk one!

It did come in a packet like the brown one on the left top corner. I suspect these are clearance of a music warehouse where the cards came on packet ready to ship. Inside the brown box it came the original packaging

i would love to have a adat digital mixer to go with my ADAT interfaces
i have the following:
digi 001, rme 96/8, motu 2408mk2+pcix424 card

imagine having a sonorus + yamaha 01v back in 1998.. on the cutting edge of technology;)
even before the 2408 or digi 001 was released

according to my page i made: http://www.oldschooldaw.com/forums/index.php?topic=360.0
the sonorus card goes back as far as 1996! i think this might be wrong tho as it wasnt written up in sos till http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep98/articles/sonorus.html sept 1998..
the frontier wavecener + korg 1212 cards came first before the sonorus according to sos

i dont think the sonorus card works in mac os x does it have an X driver?
i thought it was 8/9 only

my idea for this card was to use two cards.. one in each g4 and one to make sounds.. and the other to record...
synced via MTC.. using the mac os 9 allstar apps cubase 5 VST / Logic 5 as my recording apps..
and possibly Ableton live 4 or Digital Performer as my sound producing apps..
with just 2 ADAT optical cable.. 16 tracks!! its really amazing..

i already have a few interfaces with ADAT like my RME + my DIGI001 but each have only 1 adat (8channel)
the motu2408 is my only interface with 2 x ADAT ... maybe that would be a great combo..
motu 2408 on digital performer ---> feeding into Sonorus running Cubase or Logic  :D

Sonorus is OS8/9 only on macs. There were no OSX drivers AFAIK.  :'(  But the card is supported on BeOS and Linux. Windows have drivers for NT so I guess XP should work too. I will have to research some more.

The STUDI/O card is really complex. I have not put it on working state still. The system recognizes it to work. Logic (or any ASIO DAW) recognizes it. But you have to choose the working mode before. I have synced the card to both adat ins, but havent take a sound out of it still.

Logic allow you to use it beside a ASIO interface, but used in that way you can't use VST plugs on it, only Logics ones. As when it is used the 001 as DirectIO instead of the ASIO drivers for Cubase you pointed out some months ago.

I only tried to use it as digital only. Still hasn't tested the analog outs. I am busy with some mixes at these times to make more tests.

what are u trying to connect the sonorus to?

Sonorus ADAT out ---> Digi 001 ADAT in?

Sonorus ADAT out 1 ---> Focusrite LS 56 ADAT in 1

Focusrite LS 56 ADAT out 1 to sonorus adat in 1

Sonorus can sync to in A or in B or internal. I have tested the 3

Also tried as if ADAT would be SPDIF
