I have never seen a double box for any PowerPC setup

http://www.nox-xtreme.com/en/product/blaze-x2-project/38/

These kind of boxes are ideal for some setups. Liquid cooling placed up and light air flow for the rest of the system.

If you put the MDD PSU in this box Up with a big fan instead of the 2 demons it takes and those  big fans for the drive will cool the memory/pci. You have the ultimate MDD  ;D with 2 different "air flow zones".

This looks like a well thought out case. Something would need to be done with the rear of it though because f the MDD board profile having the cards and ports offset. The SwordM works nicely because it has a rear door which covers the awkward metalwork needed to fit it all in there. But it's hard drive area is much more basic than the Blaze. Also one of the first things I did was replace the MDD PSU with an ATX PSU.

I have no issue with the sound of the MDD. Replaced all the stock fans, have added a fan in the front of the case as well as behind the hetsink. Ripped of the G5's air tunnel idea ;)
Replaced the original cooling paste with some Arctic Silver.

It runs very quiet in OS9, even with it's overclocked Dual 1.25ghz (to 1.5ghz) CPU.
No issue having it right next to you in the studio.

IMO, the power supply is the culprit, what did you do with the PS fans... Remove them ? Replace them ?

Replaced them. The machine is as quiet as an iMac G4 under Mac OS 9.

i meant in person.. i have not seen one in any of the mdds that i have found....
for sale.. available..
they always have the aluminum ones
i think the copper ones were not used for that long and that they are alot more rare and hard to find
to buy
i have never seen a 1.42 fw800 in person either
but here is one for sale
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-PowerMac-G4-M8841LL-A-1-42GHZ-15-DISPLAY-10-4-OS-9-2-MAXED-FREE-SHIP-/151514984402?pt=Apple_Desktops&hash=item2346ff2fd2
so i guess u are right

but yes my fans are set up exactly like the above pic..
one pushing out and one pulling in
but this is a better job then i did.. i had 80mm fan
and i had to cut the frame of the fan to make it fit
it is a total hackjob what i did lol
i think it would be better to use 60mm fan because they would fit better

interesting you noticed that FW800 on ebay too. I saw it as well, not curious about the heatsink as I was lucky enough to obtain two (may have an extra one or two available in near future if any of you might be looking as I worked out a pretty simple/decent way to mod a Corsair H80 water cooler and maybe soon H80i to mount to the G4 processor in FW400/FW800 MDD.. just finishing up last fan changes and I will take a few pics and list part numbers). Instead, curious if anyone knows what the squirrel cage fan is in that ebay auction? That has a very defined mount that seems to latch/grab/mount on to the pci card bracket for long cards. Suggests it was a part designed for the machine. Best I could find was that Avid may have included it with some sort of part/upgrade.

Very curious what fans you used... I have tried many 60mm that move at least 30 CFM each... and never found any to be truly "quiet"

If you are using some that only move 18 to 20 CFM... how hot is your PS getting ?
