Plugin SDK
« on: Today at 02:53:29 AM »

Did any plugin SDK for Pro Tools 1-6 Rigs
Survive?

I would love to attempt to write new stuff for old rigs

You could only get it if you had an existing company and an actual product you want to make.
Nothing for just playing around or academic use. Also you had to sign an NDA to get anything at all.

So the only chance is if you know someone who did plugin development back then and is willing to send it to you...
If you manage to get something let me know, it also helps for reversing existing plugins :)

that is how it worked with RTAS/TDM back in the days - it is not comparable with the situation for photoshop or VST, where 100,000 people downloaded the SDKs.

In theory, in 2026, one could simply ask the rightholders if they can give it us for free, as we did many times here.

but in this case, which such big companies (which do not even exist anymore) it is highly doubtful that they still have the SDK around - or someone who could make that decision, in the first place.

in addition, most third party developers are also not exactly very small or very liberal, they followed their leader. :)

with AAX the platform has left the "closed ecosystem" idea.
AAX still needs a license contract, verification and approval, an USB dongle, a PACE ID and an apple signature, but at least there are no additional b2b fantasy fees when you want to distribute your freeware plug-ins - and anyone is allowed to play around with the SDK.

well today everyone can get the AAX SDK and the current new hot thing is clean room reverse engineering old plugins, making the original guis resizeable and then makefile your own aax arm lexiverb like i did today good times... so i thought if the old sdk survived it would work the other way around. make your very own mac os 9 tdm plugins... :)
