1.11.2: This new version of the MacOS 1212 I/O software includes a comprehensive new HTML-format 1212 I/O FAQ file, along with updated versions of the 1212 I/O extension and 1212 I/O Utility. As introduced in version 1.1, the current software includes support for the MacOS Sound Manager, enabling the 1212 I/O to work with BIAS Peak, Premiere Plug-Ins, and other Sound Manager-compatible programs.1.3.1 (11/4/99): 1212 I/O software release version 1.3 fixes issues with Firewire and the PACE USB Floppy Enabler.

Installation Instructions
1. Remove any previous versions of the 1212 I/O extension from the Extensions folder (in the System folder).
2. Drag the old 1212 I/O Utility application into the trash.
3. Drag the new 1212 I/O extension into the Extensions folder.
4. Drag the new 1212 I/O Utility application onto your hard drive.
5. Remove the file named "Korg1212IO Preferences" from the Preferences folder (in the System folder), and drag it into the trash.
6. Remove the file named "Sound Preferences" from the Preferences folder (in the System folder), and drag it into the trash.
7. Re-start the computer.
If you have been using the 1212 I/O as the Sound Manager device:
8. After re-starting, open the Sound control panel and re-select the 1212 I/O for Input and Output.
IMPORTANT: In some rare cases, it may be necessary to trash the preferences (steps 5-7 above) twice. If you still experience crashes after installing the software, trash the preferences again.
Release Notes
MacOS 8.6 approved for use with the 1212 I/O: Previously, we had suspected a problem with MacOS 8.6. This turned out to be a specific issue with Firewire support, which has now been fixed.
Icon does not appear at startup: The startup icon has been removed, to solve an issue in which other icons would appear strangely on some non-Apple monitors. So, please do not be concerned when the icon does not appear; this is now the normal behavior.
BIAS Peak: You may experience audio glitches when recording in BIAS Peak via the 1212 I/O's Sound Manager driver. Korg is investigating this issue.
PACE USB Floppy Enabler: The PACE USB Floppy Enabler is used for the installation of key-disk copy-protection via USB floppy drives.
1212 I/O Version 1.3.1 includes a fix to the 1212 I/O Utility to provide compatibility with the PACE USB Floppy Enabler. Other 1212 I/O-compatible applications (such as drivers for MAS, ASIO, etc.) may also need to be updated, although we are not aware of any problems in particular.
The USB Floppy Enabler is used only during installation of software, and not when the software is actually being used. This allows a fairly simple work-around in the event of problems with any particular application:
1. Temporarily disable the 1212 I/O extension (using the Extensions Manager
control panel)
2. Enable the PACE extension
3. Restart
4. Install the software (restart afterwards if necessary)
5. Disable the PACE extension
6. Re-enable the 1212 I/O extension
7. Restart
Firewire extensions: This version includes a fix to provide compatibility with the Apple Firewire extensions.
Adaptec SCSI Cards and Blue & White G3 systems: Version 4.x of the Adaptec Power Domain software, which Adaptec recommends for use in Blue & White G3 computers, eliminated the "Set Target Options" command described in the 1212 I/O FAQ. This command was used to set the transfer rate for SCSI drives to 10MB/sec, which is recommended for use with the 1212 I/O. The Power Domain software version 5 includes a similar option, named "SCSI Mode," which allows you to set the transfer rate for the card as a whole. General notes
This version of the 1212 I/O software adds support for the latest single-processor "gigabit ethernet" G4 computers. We have also begun testing with multiprocessor G4 computers, and while our testing is currently incomplete, results so far are generally positive.
This release also supports ASIO 2.0, including ADAT timecode support with Cubase VST versions 4.1 and later.

NOTE: Cubase VST 4.1 or later is required for ADAT timecode support via ASIO 2.0.
To use the new 1212 I/O software:
Install the new 1212 I/O ASIO driver
1. Remove the older 1212 I/O ASIO driver from the audio program's ASIO Drivers folder. You might wish to keep this as a backup, in a different folder on your hard drive.
2. Place the new 1212 I/O ASIO driver in that same folder.
3. Repeat as necessary for all ASIO 2.0-compatible software.
NOTE: Not all ASIO-compatible software is compatible with ASIO 2.0. For example, Peak 2.1 requires ASIO 1.0 drivers. Check with the software manufacturer for information on particular software. It is OK to use ASIO 1.0 drivers with one piece of software, and ASIO 2.0 drivers with another.

1. Remove the older 1212 I/O Utility program from its current location. You might wish to keep this as a backup, in a different folder on your hard drive.
2. Place the new 1212 I/O Utility program on your hard drive.

Configuring Cubase VST 4.1 for use with ADAT Timecode
1. Select the 1212 I/O ASIO Driver in the Audio System Setup options dialog.
2. Select ADAT as the clock source.
3. Select ASIO 2.0 as the Timecode Base in the Options->Synchronization dialog.
4. Currently, Cubase cannot use sample-accurate timecode when set to use OMS; you should use Cubase's internal MIDI system instead.
5. On the 1212 I/O, make sure that the ADAT's optical output is connected to the 1212 I/O's optical input.
6. Also on the 1212 I/O, make sure that the ADAT's 9 pin sync output is connected to the ADAT Timecode Conditioner, and that the ADAT Timecode Conditioner is connected to the 9-pin input on the 1212 I/O.
After setting up, you're ready to sync!
Syncing Cubase VST 4.1 Playback to ADAT Timecode
1. Start the ADAT.
2. Press the Sync button on the transport.
Cubase will chase to the ADAT.
The card does not read timecode from the ADAT after the Sync button is pressed. So, if you stop, fast forward, or rewind the ADAT, then to sync again you must:
1. Start the ADAT.
2. Toggle the Sync button off and then back on again.
Recording with Cubase VST 4.1 while synced to ADAT Timecode
1. Enable Cubase's punch in/out feature, and set the punch in/out points.
2. Record-enable the desired track(s).
3. Follow the instructions under "Syncing Cubase VST 4.1 Playback to ADAT Timecode," above.
You do not need to press the Record button; Cubase will record automatically according to the punch in/out points.

ASIO 2.0 drivers vs. ASIO 1.0 drivers:
This version includes an ASIO 2.0 driver. Some programs have not yet been updated to support ASIO 2.0, and so they may not work with the included ASIO driver. The latest version of the ASIO 1.0 driver may be found on Steinberg's ftp site, at:
ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/steinberg-software/product_updates/macintosh/asio/Note that this ASIO 1.0 driver uses an older version of the Korg glue code, and so is not compatible with the PACE Floppy Enabler extension (used for copy protection with some digital audio programs.)
BIAS Peak: Currently, we recommend using the 1212 I/O with BIAS Peak via Sound Manager. BIAS Peak does not yet support ASIO 2.0, so it will not function properly with the included ASIO 2.0 driver.
