« on: October 04, 2025, 09:29:27 PM »

I have a G4 Titanium 1Ghz     w/2GB ram   I love this thing!!  It gets hot and the screen seems to react to the hotter temp
I assume I need to reapply thermal paste.  what else should I do?

The maximum RAM for the TiBook is 1 GB (2x 512 MB SDRAM).

The vents are probably clogged with lint and the fan may be seized.

I have multiple Titaniums. Any of them - particularly the 1ghz - need to be taken apart and have the old thermal pads and goo cleaned off and replaced. I've replaced this with K5Pro which is a thick paste. The machine temp is way down and the machine has become reliable. Sadly I've found some other issues lately. All of mine have had speaker failures over the last couple of years. I've managed to replace the speakers in one unit so far. Then several of them stopped booting at all. I suspect the four electrolytic capacitors are failing. I've recently had replacements delivered and I'm hoping to test that hypothesis soon.

Getting the thermal side sorted is really important. I've seen one which seems to have cooked it's GPU.
