rotating monitors
(1/1)
dkatz:
As I use system 9 for composing music for large numbers of instruments, I always use a big monitor. I had some jumbo CRTs back in the day.
But a long time, i moved to flat screens...And at some point, I had an app (or a control panel, or extension, or "desk accessory" or whatever) that would, with a keyboard command, rotate the image on the screen to go along with my rotatable monitor (or display, if you will). Can't remember what it was called, it some third party thing, and I can't remember what system it last worked in.
The important thing is: it WOULDN'T work in 9.2.2 It either stopped with the end of system 8, or an earlier versions of 9.
I would SO like to be able to rotate my screen.
An orchestral type score is a very vertical thing, and it would enable me to see all of the music on the page at once, instead of scrolling around. Does ANYONE know of some software that I don't know about that will do this?

I have one 9.2.2 machine with a 2nd grapiccard+monitor that I used in "pivot mode" all the time. In my case for a final check of the impression/look and feel of a portrait layout (newspapers, books, etc.). But I cannot remember how this extension is called, and I have no access to this special G4 at the moment, … was it perhaps "SwitchRes"?
If not I will provide the information, but it may take some weeks.
IIO:
same here, i clearly remember a system extension which gave you pivot mode, but can not remember the name.
unless you have a radeon 9800 or your monitor came with mac drivers you needed this thing.
IIO:
this is the one which does not work with > 9.0.1 i think?

this one is even older, but you might want to try your luck.
add some more memory to the cdev or application if you attempt to runt it in 9.2.2.

IIO you are great! It is "MacPortrait" that I used at this one G4. I can confirm, for me it worked well with Mac OS 9.2.2.
It can be a little bit picky (e.g. crashing the system if you switch back an forth often), and it was quite slow as it is utilising the system memory. It is also only working with a 2nd graphiccard when you like to have just one monitor in pivot. But it is quite useful and works well for a 2nd monitor with various TFTs.
