good morning.. I read information about the
Sound Burst - Ethnosphere 1.1 VST, it seems compatible with OS9! unfortunately for mac I didn't find it on the internet..not even a demo. does anyone have it? would you post it here? let me know, thanks

thanks for the info but the purchase page doesn't work. it has no more support.. the software came out in 2004 (more than 20 years ago..) I think it is free from copyright.

when was it explicitly released as freeware/public domain?

it's unlikely that if they closed as a company they would bother to make announcements .. the site is there but it's dead .. it's not purchasable .. more than 20 years since its release. I'm trying not to make it disappear forever by recovering it and publishing it here. I think that's also the spirit of this site, it's not the software just released. The same site "macintosh garden" is based on this research, right on the welcome page it declares " .. software no longer purchasable .. respect for copyright ( 20 years ) otherwise they will be removed .. so in fact published without notice of the closed companies of a free release .. however if you are not interested in recovery or giving information you are not obliged to write in this post. thanks

then ask them if they need help making their software freeware since 100% they aint got the machines anymore

latest information. I contacted the company and wrote to the owner (very kind person).
I'm writing a summary here.
The company is still very active but has been working for third parties for many years now. Their products and site are closed. They have nothing more about it (demos, closed servers, etc.) The site remained online as a "historical relic" of the activity of the time. I asked if this software can be considered free or abandoned, given its age and the fact that it is no longer in production.
He didn't commit himself. He can't consider it free because the software is theirs but the samples were taken from another company that holds the copyright (even if they are over 20 years old and should have lost it..) so he can't speak for the other company. not even as abbandowerb because the same samples have been converted and repackaged for another product (kontakt) so they have not been abandoned (even if in fact they are more than 20 years old..) .. the biggest problem is perhaps that he does not remember well even after all the years, perhaps the protection system is based on question and answer on internet servers and they have not had anything for many years.. so. if the software has a protection system on the internet we have probably lost it (like Wave 4, Sony Oxford etc..) if it was a cd image or serial there could be a possibility of recovery. It would be nice to add another VST to our OS9 libraries. does anyone know what the authorization of this software was based on? or if you have other news (constructive..) let me know, thanks

now thats commitment. and its quite normal that everything is repackaged and resold and they cant even themselves open their own software.

soundtoys, prosoniq/zynaptiq they all cant open their old plugins even if they had PMG4s

but that is a classic problem... often rights are distributed across multiple parties... and in that case here are even still used commercially in some form (and it if it is only about a a trademark or a logo design), so you cannot release it for free.

i have the content from the windows version (which should be compatible) but as far as i can tell the mac installer never was around.

it is so rare and came so late to OS9 that it is probably also not possible to find a second hand offer on reverb.

regarding samplefarm, for this one there is a free version... which might show the difference or offer halfbaked options such as for the plugsound players.

the installer does exist! I went back in time (2003) with www.archivie and this description of the VST "FORMAT AND COMPATIBILITY
Ethnosphere is available for both Mac and PC.

no, i don't have it. i'm looking for it. we didn't understand each other. on the site (old) it is declared compatible with Mac and you could download it (at the time 2003)..when you click on the button to download it it takes you to a purchase page that is dead. game over. you can't download it from the site anymore. it is not known if the library for PC is compatible with Mac but it is already something. great. thanks for your interest :-)
