jackpot!

http://www.stairways.com/main/netpresenz

NetPresenz is a Classic Macintosh implementation of the WWW, Gopher and FTP server protocols. It is compatible with most web browsers and FTP clients. It allows your Mac to act as an FTP server so you (and others) can access your files from anywhere around the world. You can also host a web site directly from your computer.

NetPresenz requires Mac OS 7.x, 8.x or 9.x. It is not needed on Mac OS X, and we have no plans to update it to work on Mac OS X.

NetPresenz was originally shareware, but we are now releasing it for free. Please click the “I Paid” checkbox in NetPresenz Setup - FTP Setup dialog.

It honors the Users & Groups privileges and passwords, and supports multiple logins, anonymous FTP (user name “anonymous” or “ftp”), as well as MacBinary and BinHex transfers, and the “MACB” FTP command. You can run NetPresenz as a foreground application (displaying the log), or as a background only application, so you can have it running transparently while you work.

For more information about how NetPresenz works refer to the PDF manual.

You can download NetPresenz or the manual.

I've uploaded NetPresent 4.1 to my FTP folder. But I insist, you must consider using Hotline soft (also on my FT folder :)

well ive done it! created my ftp.. for backup.. using this ancient relic's PATA ports lol
i thought this Highpoint controller on this board supported RAID but i was wrong
so i had to install XP and use software raid-5!

to enable raid1 mirroring + raid5 arrays in windows xp Sp3
http://addto.it/Software-RAID-0-1-5-or-JBOD-Using-Windows-XP-Pro-SP3
after downloading the 3 files + bat file from this site and placing into the C:\windows\raid directory i created
i used hirens boot cd to boot into "mini xp" and run the .bat file
worked like a charm!

i now have functional software raid-5 disk array in windows xp to use as a ftp to backup my mac files
using old IDE hard drives that were lying around unused

this page just saved my ass so im stashing the link here

now i just have to get the ftp part set up and get to archiving !
i would like to have a back up on an os9 mac in the future but time is of the essence right now
thanks to 'go fuck yourself daddy'

horrible video
do not watch..
i wanted to slap the guy talking so bad.. hes so annoying lol

i came across this video

which talks about using a unix based custom os for this purpose called "freeNAS"
but his system was using a xeon w/ 4gb of ram so i thought my little crappy box
wouldnt be able to cut it but it looks interesting nevertheless
worth exploring.. custom unix based os for filesharing server..
