New Here

Here there,

I'm new here and signed up for the single reason of getting information and asking questions related to OS 9!

I've got a PowerBook G4 17" the very last one they ever produced: A1139, and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction regarding installing OS 9 on this machine.

I use it with Sorbet to run my FireWire Nikon SuperCoolscan to scan my negatives, but would like to use OS 9 as well especially to 'communicate' between that Mac, and my SE/30 that runs System 7.5.5 and is fully online through BlueSCSI.

Thanks in advance and kind regards from Switzerland,
Jip

I grew up with a PowerBook G4 as a kid/teen, but I think the earliest OS I've used is Tiger or maybe one version earlier.

I would like to install Sorbet and also install OS 9, but I can't find any tutorial for this, and according to ChatGPT (I know it is not always reliable), installing OS 9 is not possible on the PowerBook G4s that I have: A1139 and A1106.

You can use file sharing (AppleShare) between 7.5.5 and OSX if your SE/30 has an Ethernet adapter.
The SE/30 with 7.5.5 needs OpenTransport 1.3 and AppleShare Client 3.7.4 installed.
The OSX machine with 10.4 or 10.4 Server can act as the file server. (Although AppleShare support was easier in 10.2 and 10.3.)

The SE/30 can use AppleShare over LocalTalk (its modem and printer ports), but your PowerBook G4 doesn't have that type of port (and USB-Serial adapters do not support LocalTalk). So the SE/30 needs Ethernet to communicate, or else a bridge between the two like a GatorBox.
