Firewire MIDI I/O only interfaces for OS9
« on: August 16, 2024, 09:21:06 PM »

Were there ever any Firewire MIDI I/O only interfaces that were compatible with OS9?

Ive never heard of such a thing at *all*, let alone one that would work on OS9.
MIDI data barely stresses a USB 1.1 connection, firewire would have been completely overkill.
At the time OS9 was still being actively developed, it was easy and cheap enough to get something like a StealthPort for $50 and hook up old serial MIDI interfaces that most times worked better than the USB interfaces of the time.
There just wouldnt have been any money in it.

wasnt there a version of the digidesign MH041 which was firewire-only?

firewire has both, accuracy and bandwidth, plus you save ports.

StealthPort would be great although they are far from being cheap to find nowadays

If anyone has one to sell for a reasonable price I am more than willing to buy one....

imac geethree: diehard is selling one with 50perc off

so i read up firewire is better in terms of jitter. so midex8, unitor8 being all usb (sufficient in terms of bandwidth) are inferior to an audio/midi interface? i have not got a firewire interface because unitor8 can be had for 20 eur

get a new circuitbored clone, for an old original you need to search too long.

but how many ports do you need? for 1-2 you could abuse a audio/midi fire interface and only use its midi.
