Best clients for Usenet - BBS...

(1/1)

MigMac:
Now that I have a working MacOS921 VM I'd like to explore some 'forgotten' zones of the net like Usenet and BBS. Things I didn't even do when I had a G3 iMac 25 years ago !!  :) I tried gopher with Turbogopher, works fine.

Any fine client for Usenet? BBS? Do they require special configs?

thanks

Knezzen:
Have you read this great article by Bolkonskij? It's a good starting point for Usenet on Mac OS 9 :)

MigMac:
Hello

missed you on Hotline this morning :)

yes I read it, very interesting. I registered at Eternal-September.org but didn't get the password via email (as they say, might be blocked by the provider :( )...

I will continue searching to get some access somewhere using AppleFritter and others...

cheers

Knezzen:
Very strange. What email provider do you have? I know it turned up in the spam folder on my Gmail account.

There are some great suggestions in this thread over at System 7 Today as well. I use MT-NewsWatcher on all my System 7 - Mac OS 9.2.2 machines. It's the by far most feature rich client out there for Classic Mac OS. On OSX I tend to use Unison from Panic Software (who gave us the FTP client Transmit amongst other things).

Happy Usenet surfing :)

MigMac:
Believe it or not I used an .me.com addy (Apple!) and nothing came :(

I'll have another go with another email service. Thanks for the link to that thread, I'll open accounts with those Usenet 'providers', dump some of the apps I put on my OS9 and use MT-NewsWatcher instead, it looks neat !
