MB Bios battery replacement options?
« on: August 04, 2024, 08:27:03 PM »

Hi - so I have quite a few G4's still, and am wanting to replace the ones that have dead BIOS batteries. They all have TADIRAN TR-2150 lithium batteries in them. I don't necessarily have to replace them with the exact type (although, I do like the little grapes:)) - I guess the advantage of them is that some of them are STILL working after 20 years! Presumably they aren't rechargeables...

What do people recommend?

Saft LS14250 are equivalent.
Note that the used cells contain toxic waste and should be disposed accordingly.

There are many. This type of battery is under a standard called ER14250.
Here is a list of some of them:

Tadiran TLL-5902, TL-5902, TL-5151, TL-4902, TL-5101, TL-5111

Saft LS-14250

Sonnenschein SL-350, SL-750, SL-150

Maxell ER3

Minamoto ER14250

I can't find info about Tabiran TR-2150. So it's probably TL-2150, which is the same model that came stock with my MDD since 2003 and is still alive. I've used a few brands but always come back to Tadiran because, IME, they last the longest. I see people say Varta is even better but I haven't tried it.

From this page: https://tadiranbat.com/technical-data/discontinued-products/, the TL-2150 has been discontinued. Its direct replacement is TLL-5902. I can't find TLL-5902 in my region, only TL-5902. So, in my case, the TL-5902 would be the replacement for it. Its datasheet also looks good, even better than the TLL-5902. So it should be OK.
