I'll go grab one on a second.

Am I suppose to see a driver version in the system profiler though?

it doesnt say any driver versions in my system profiler either.
to see version info u would have to do "cmd-i" on the actual extension file in your system folder / extensions folder
that will show u the version + date created

my geforce4mx is in 1680x1050 mode right now and its connected via DVI
using nvidia drivers of course so the radeon 9000 should be capable of this aswell.

ill be replacing this video card shortly tho as ive read that when compared next to the performance of the geforce 4 TI's these cards are garbage!

Oddly I'm getting some other resolutions to try but it's making my dock float up to the middle of the screen.

Surely if a video card and monitor can pull 1920X1080 it can do something less than that that's still 16X9. Hmm... I wonder if anyone else where has the same card and can test.

By the way, these resolutions worked in OSX. I just can't select them here for some weird reason. I suspect it's a driver issue.

Hopefully someone else with an MDD that has a Radeon 9000 in it can chime in and let me know if they can get 1920X1080 as well as something like 1600X900. Mine goes from 1920X1080 all the way to 1280X1024.

1920X1080 is the only 16X9 aspect ratio resolution that's provided, the rest are 4:3.

Chris, do you have a monitor that can support 1920X1080? And if so, can you select multiple 16X9 resolutions to use?

640×360, 854×480, 960×540, 1024×576, 1280×720, 1366×768, 1600×900, 1920×1080 - all of those are 16X9. If you can select another one, I may just have to get another video card. I already bought that damned Apple adapter...

the geforce4mx card is the oem version that came with an MDD, it has a dvi port and an ADC
i have my g4 connected to a Cinema display and it only shows up 1680x1050 as the max res atm
these are the modes/options i get with the geforce4mx :
Quote
800x500
840x526
1024x640
1280x800
1344x840
1680x1050

g4 450mhz sawtooth -> geforce4mx -> dvi connector -> cinema display
i dont have osx installed on my sawtooth so thats all i can check for ya.

if you are going to get another video card and 100% mac os 9 compatibility + performance is important to you, these are the cards you should be looking at:

geforce3 ti200, geforce3 ti500, geforce4 ti4200, radeon 8500, quadro 700xgl, quadro 750xgl, geforce4 ti4400, geforce4 ti4600, quadro 900xgl

all of them have fans but these fans are nothing compaerd to what fans are on video cards now..
these were the first wave of performance cards really ever made... relative to the current radeons + geforces anyway..

the radeon 8500LE is the same as the flagship radeon 8500. but with slightly slower clock speed + ram but apparently can be easily overclocked .. but this is 2014 and u can get the ti4600.. so just get one.. just do a search for "nvidia p83" on ebay.

I just tried another monitor. Apparently the resolution issue isn't so much with drivers, but the interaction of the monitor you're using and OS9. However it may just be this card. I'd still like other people to chime in and let us know if they can select multiple 16X9 resolutions.

It's hard to tell where is the "problem".

Yes, I fully agree with this, a lot of things are involved to determine the monitor  resolution list: Apple video manager, video drivers, video card, video connector and the monitor.

Yes,I can select multiple "not 4/3" resolutions, like 1920x1080, 1680x1050, 1440x900, 1280x720, 1344x840,1280x800,1024x640,800x500...

As you asked me for help, let's try to do the few things that can be done to solve this.
So please download and restart your computer with this system folder, to discard a software issue:

And let me know how it goes ...

Ok, I've got it booted. I found the Monitors area and it's still giving me the same resolutions as last time.

Hey MacTron. I just put my G4 to rest for good. Having power & mobo issues. I'm getting a new G4 in the future and hopefully this won't be an issue.

Thanks for your help.

Lamentably, I couldn't find a solution -if any- This is a problem hard to solve (specially remotely) I saw it from the first post.

Hey Syntho, look at what I just find in Macintosh Garden! :

"Try the Resolution manager utility located here (scroll down). Several years ago, I wrote the low level part (INIT) of this with Dan Palka doing the UI/testing/packaging up"

http://www.nasolab.com/freebies/index.html

Resolution Manager

This is a 2010 build of an old Mac OS Classic project that detects and allows the setting of all available resolutions for any display attached to your Mac, including ones the regular Monitors control panels do not show. Features a 10-second restore feature in the event you select an incompatible resolution, and the ability to export the detected resolutions as a text file. Consider Resolution Manager unfinished and still in beta. There will be no future updates.

*Should* work with System 7.5 through Mac OS 9.2.2. Compiled but untested with 68k code as well, just in case.

I tried it. I couldn't see any additional resolutions with it. I also tried SwitchRes to no avail.

One thing I haven't tried is something called ResEdit. This program is for modifying control panels. I heard that you can edit the monitor display and manually add resolutions to it. I'm going to have to try that if all else fails.

resEdit isnt for editing resolutions its for editing "resources"

I know, someone said you can use it to edit resolutions. We're not confusing the 'Res' part with resolutions.
