Ok, the older you get the longer it takes to get things done...
What is somehow nice with using all this obsolete technology - there is a limit. If i would have good nerves i could try out all plugins that are available and my choice would be valid forever, there will not be any new plugins. Thats a nice contrast to modern technology where it is likely impossible to "try all" and make a choice.
So i made my first rough choice (what to download) based on screenshots and also on the name of the plugin, if it is obscure i want to try it. Also i tried to add in some of the "standard" stuff by Waves and TC, well known brand names, essential plugins. Thanks to the macos9lives Hotline server the choice was huge. So i admit i did not download *every* EQ, compressor etc. plugin as those that i had so far were quite good.
The "fun" part was to try them all in SVP. Some wouldnt show up although they are in the VST folder. Some would crash when you select them in SVP. Some had graphical glitches or sound errors when you select them in SVP. Of those who worked - some had a really bad interface or just wouldnt sound good, there is especially a lot of reverbs that sound like a big tin can. All of these have been removed from the selection. I have a folder with more than 100 plugins that were not good, just for future reference.
So... Here is a list of basic plugins and a bit more far out effects that i selected for myself, that all work flawlessly in SVP, that produce good or interesting sound and that are EASY to use. Like you see it the first time an will be able to use it in less than 5 minutes max (given common knowledge of musical terms as they are used widely).
Maybe its not complete, maybe something is missing, maybe its very subjective and leaning a bit on the experimental/distortion side... It took me two days for the operation and i think i will not do THAT journey again. Other journeys are waiting.
