E-Z path to M-Audio drivers etc.
« Reply #40 on: August 29, 2024, 12:43:42 PM »

(via the Nostalgia Client and the Hotline Server)

Thats: hotline.macos9lives.com > MacOS Extensions & Utilities > Hardware Drivers > Audio & Midi Interfaces > M-Audio.

However (at present) if you just paste hotline.macos9lives.com into your browser… you get this:

So… you must instead, use a Hotline Client as explained here: http://macos9lives.com/downloads  ;)

However (at present) if you just paste hotline.macos9lives.com into your browser… you get this:

Not anymore. The webserver is shared with System 7 Today and other websites we run, so when a subdomain is not configured in the webserver it will redirect to the first site configured in the configuration file, which is system7today.com.

The downloads are avaliable in the same structure over gopher as well at gopher://gopher.macos9lives.com/ or over a http to gopher proxy at http://gopher.floodgap.com/gopher/gw?a=gopher%3A%2F%2Fgopher.macos9lives.com

Well surprisingly in this particular instance and more
specifically; for those seeking to downgrade the
firmware in their M-Audio 410’s in order to use them
with OS 9… there is still another option...
other than Hotline or Gopher.

M-Audio’s Support Knowledge Base
@ https://m-audio.com/support/drivers

EXAMPLE:

So of the six primary M-Audio files mentioned in this
thread, there is perhaps a more direct route for the file
downloads.

fw410 10013 cd.exe
Firewire 410 v1.0.1 build3 driver
FireWire OSX 1.5.3
FireWire OSX 1.9.3

Also mentioned:
FireWire OSX 1.6 Build 1174 (Audiophile & FireWire 410)
https://m-audio.com/support/download/drivers/firewire-osx-1.6-build-1174
AND: FWUni OS9 1.0.4 b42 install

But all are not necessary depending upon your
specific OS / M-Audio device / or one’s chosen
firmware downgrade approach. (There’s even an
OMS2_3_8.sit file available for OS 9 there.) ;)

I’m late to this party, but I am nonetheless overjoyed to have my FW410 working with Cubasis in OS9.2.2.  There are several different paths outlined in this thread for how to get the FW410 working in OS9.  I followed the steps posted by aBc, mostly because I had a machine with identical specs to the one he used (OS9.2.2 and OS10.4.6 on a single partitioned HD) (https://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=6942.msg53247#msg53247).

Here are the steps I followed.  I used external power for the FW410 and made sure the computer and FW410 were powered down before connecting or removing the Firewire cable.

1.   In OS9, install Firewire 410 v.1.0.1 build 3.  When I connected the FW410 and opened its control panel, the Bootloader and Firmware fields were blank on the About tab.
2.   In OS10.4.6, I installed FW410_OSX_build_1054.dmg.  When I connected the FW410 and opened its app, the “No FW410 devices found” window opened.
3.   Shutdown, disconnected FW410, and still in 10.4.6 installed FireWire_OSX_1_5_3.dmg.  Reconnect FW410. Opening the FW410 app/control panel revealed the desired 2003 dates for Bootloader and Firmware on the About tab. Shutdown.
4.   Boot in OS9.2.2.  FW410 is still connected. When I opened the FW410 control panel, the “No FW410 devices found” opened.  I closed the window, made sure the FW410 was turned on (via the power switch on the front panel), and opened the control panel again.  Same “No FW410 devices found” window.  I repeated this cycle again, and the control panel opened, showing the desired information in the About tab.

I then moved the FW410 to another Mac with OS9.2.2, Firewire 410 v.1.0.1 build 3, and Cubasis installed. It worked fine and sounded good with the Cubasis demo song.

Thanks for visibleprism, aBc, and everyone who posted on this thread.  I’m sorry I missed the original discovery and discussion of the FW410 resurrection, but no one is happier to have this hunk working in OS9.

I am so happy to hear this Mardeec - especially after all of that time that we spent pulling large clumps of our hair out over this a few years back (and for those pulling their hair out even before us). Visibleprism came outta nowhere (it seems) and cracked it.

Now… one of these days… I’ll test it with a Mac mini. ;)

Unless someone else would like to try it and report.

BIG GIANT CONGRATS Mardeec!

FYI

Oh ha-ha!

Recent check today of M-Audio’s Support Knowledge Base
https://m-audio.com/support/drivers reveals that they have
now removed the “Legacy” Series of drivers. So, no more
M-Audio Firewire 410 files are there.

See previous:
http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=6942.msg56371#msg56371

Maybe they were dealing with more downloads for a “Legacy”
product that they no longer wish to support, when they would
likely much rather sell something newer in their product line?

At any rate, check some listed prices (yesterday) for the old
Firewire 410 units.

So, perhaps a tad bit more than a M-Audio Transit (if you can even find one of those).

Certainly a very great value (especially after the OS 9 “regression”).
Here’s a rundown of the FW 410 features from March of 2004.
https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/m-audio-firewire-410

Uh-oh... less expensive than the Transit!

If you’re going the “Windows XP route” see post:
http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=6942.msg53247#msg53247

There it mentions: fw410_10013_cd.exe installer,
and the Firewire 410 v1.0.1 build3 driver
and the FW410_OSX_build_1054.dmg
(all can be found on “our” *hybrid disc download file?).
*The M-Audio Anthology and Build 3? Check both.

If you read and follow through the post noted above, you’ll note that I also used the FireWire_OSX_1_5_3.zip file downloaded from the M-Audio website. [No longer available from M-Audio’s site - but it is also attached to the aforementioned post.] Visibleprism used 1.9.3 but he was running OS 10.4.11, whereas I was running 10.4.6 - and I don’t know if 1.9.3 is on our *hybrid disc or not.

Now... AtariMan mentioned that he did not need a Windows XP machine but I’ve not tested that. You might follow his path via his post: http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=6942.msg53696#msg53696 …and he also attached (2) files in his next post after that. So you might try that first and report your success(?). If none, then there’s the Windows XP route.

*AND you might want to also review Mardeec’s most recent post:
http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=6942.msg56745#msg56745

Have fun and let us know what works for you. ;)

In current, related news (this date)…

M-AUDIO has recently omitted the Legacy files from their https://m-audio.com/support/drivers

Luckily, we’ve nearly all of the files here - or on the Hotline server.
