OS9 Classix audio in OSX Tiger
« on: April 03, 2023, 01:32:00 AM »

What am I missing!

1. Do you need a os9 compatible audio interface and install the drivers?
                                                                                                     ^
2. Is there a way to get os9 classic to use OSX Core Audio or no?        |
                                                                                                      |
3. I suppose if my only choice is 1...........................................         | Would a Digidesign 002 work?

no core audio is used by osx
asio is used by os9

002 rack is osx + above only
002 console works in macos9 AND osx ppc / osx intel

Yea I meant the 002 Console. I knew / know the rack doesnt work.

So am I right in assuming that if I had a 002  console I could use it in classic mode? if I installed the drivers?

Classic as in I booted in tiger and running apps in classic mode.

Classic wont run protools 5. You have to boot Mac OS 9

a much better idea would be two computers, one running each OS, and then network your interface via AUDIO + MIDI which are STANDARDS both accept.

that way you can use whatever os9 apps you wish to use with whatever osx apps you wish to use, with midi + audio data passed back + forth... best of both worlds

if you had another DIGI 002 rack this could easily be accomplished with one cable from 002 console adat OUT >> into 002 RACK adat IN + one midi cable from the console midi OUT to the rack MIDI IN.
