Check CPU & System Bus Overclocking
« on: October 07, 2023, 09:38:53 AM »
@evanboonie (over on MacRumors) https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/g4-7448-and-7457-swap.2233532/page-10?post=32608426#post-32608426 is reporting the use of XLR8’s MACHspeed Control - from MacGardens (https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/machspeed-control-combo) to check processor and bus overclock results.

So I’ll be testing it with the Quicksilver bus overclock noted here: http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php/topic,6079.msg45423.html#msg45423 to see if it does report a 150 MHz bus speed after the modification… instead of only relying upon the before & after performance differences reported by QuickBench. *IIRC - ASP does not report the Quicksilver’s change from 133 to 150 MHz.

XLR8’s MACHspeed Control also provides Thermal Monitoring checks of processor(s) temperature and issues warnings of overheating.
Too bad it doesn’t report actual temperatures, as I was thinking of using it to monitor the G4 Mac mini CPUs.

And of course, I would enable and disable XLR8’s MACHspeed Control software PRN.
Anyone able / willing to test any of this before I can get to it on my list? ;)

If we're talking about OSX and if the processor supports temperature reporting or there are temperature sensors in the vincinity of it, there is (was) Bresink's TemperatureMonitor app. Here's the screenshot of it on my PB G4 1.5GHz running 10.5.8.
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
