Powermac G4 MDD ATX PSU suggestions
« on: January 19, 2023, 10:09:34 AM »

Hi,
im new here :). I found this page when i searching about Protools for Mac OS9.
Very good informations and software here, thanks for that!

Im also found a very nice condition Powermac G4 MDD dual 1,25. And i like to use it with a Digi002 and ProTools on OS9.22 .

But this baby is so noisy!! I have this 400 "Wind Tunnel" PSU and i cant without headphones..
So first at all i installed a SSD and use the universal restore from here.
Than i switched the 120er Fan for a noctua industrial, what is a big + against the installed one.

Now i want to switch the PSU for a ATX. I bought a adapter cable for this model to ATX.
But now im not sure what would be the best PSU to use?
Do i need a 400W? SLX or ATX?
Anyone here have done this before and can share informations with me please?

regards
Chris

Hi.

Search here for old post about replacing MDD PSU

It were ATX till the quicksilvers. For MDD you should search for slim ones

Hey! Replace the fans with Noctua fans inside the power supply

There is no full compatibility, there is also a separate FireWire power line, when switching to ATX, FireWire will not work correctly
