Power Efficiency--PowerMac G4 and G5
« on: October 17, 2022, 09:12:41 PM »

Hello,

I for the life of Google and DuckDuckGo cannot find a real answer to this question.

Given power consumption is something we are trying to reduce, which is better at power efficiency: 2002 MDD G4 1.25 (single), or Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5?

I don't have any numbers to cite, but given the G5s were essentially cut down POWER4 server chips, and were notorious for running hot and needing a lot of cooling, I'd be pretty sure the G4s have better power efficiency. If you're looking for the more powerful chip the G5 beats the G4 hands down, but it comes at a cost.

G5s were power hogs, it was another reason for the switch to Intel.
