Yamaha CBX-D3/D5 support in Emagic Logic Audio: documented timelineLogic Audio 2.5.3 — CBX support announcedIn February 1997,
Sound On Sound reported that Logic Audio 2.5 had entered the Windows 95 market during summer 1996 and that 2.5.3 was the current version. Yamaha CBX hardware was not yet supported, but Emagic confirmed that a dedicated extension was under development:
Logic Audio v2.5 for Windows 95 entered the market in summer 1996, and the latest version (2.5.3) costs £399. [...] Logic Audio does not yet support any of them, but I am assured that Emagic are in the process of developing extensions for CBX, Soundscape and the Akai DR8.
Sound On Sound, February 1997Logic Audio 2.6 — CBX Extension released for Mac OSBy April 1997, Emagic was advertising its dedicated CBX Extension for Logic Audio 2.6 on the Macintosh. It supported Yamaha’s CBX-D3 and CBX-D5 Digital Recording Processors.
LOGIC Audio CBX Extension for Mac OS
Yamaha's CBX-D3 and CBX-D5 Support for LOGIC Audio Mac OS
The CBX Extension is designed to get the most from LOGIC Audio Mac OS with Yamaha's CBX-D3 and D5 Digital Recording Processors. Connect up to 2 CBX units to even medium powered SCSI-equipped Macs for a total of eight CBX audio tracks and use any combination of CBX units for maximum flexibility. The CBX Extension can be used in conjunction with other LOGIC Audio Extensions to allow you to easily customise your digital audio system.
Record and play up to eight tracks of professional-quality digital audio—four per linked CBX unit—using a wide range of Macintosh models, from Performas to PowerBooks. The CBX processes the audio data internally while its CPU accesses your hard drive, leaving your Macintosh to run LOGIC Audio at maximum speed.
The CBX Extension can be used alongside LOGIC Audio 2.6’s built-in AV or DAE support simultaneously; simply choose the Output Device from a convenient menu. All audio files recorded within LOGIC Audio are 100% compatible and can be freely exchanged.
Archived Emagic product page, 29 April 1997The archive date establishes that the extension was available
no later than 29 April 1997; it may not represent the exact release date.
Logic Audio 3.0 — CBX support remains Mac-onlyA 1998 review of Logic Audio 3.0 confirms that the CBX and TDM extensions remained exclusive to the Macintosh version:
