Hmm oddity... Ok, right so if the link to the Japanese Guide throws an error, use this web.archive.org link instead.
Just in case, pdf attached.

Wireless LAN can be used with G3, 3400, 2400, 1400, 5300, 190.
(9.0.2 thru 9.2.2 not tested by OP) Your feedback is highly appreciated.

»Not long ago, Apple discontinued the 802.11b-compatible AirPort Card (M7600J / A) at the same time as the release of the AirPort Express.
In fact, this had a great impact on the Mac community.

Prices rose at auctions, and as a result of a flood of inquiries from second-hand shops, second-hand prices also jumped.
As a result, the AirPort Card (M7600J / A) is now very difficult to obtain.

The reason why this happened is that this AirPort Card (M7600J / A) is indispensable when you want to use wireless LAN with a G4 Mac that runs OS9 and is a little earlier.

Currently, all new and available Apple Macintoshes can only be booted on OS X.
In fact, this is a big problem in the DTP industry.

Usually, the number of printers (setters) in a printing shop is one million to tens of millions.
You need to replace this to make it compatible with OSX.
However, in the uncertain recession, such investment is not easy.

So, in reality, the printing shop doesn't support it, so designers and editors have to get a bloody eye and secure a machine that can run OS9. (Let's talk about this separately)

Meanwhile, the wirelessization of the network opened by AirPort has become a big trend including Windows. Once you use wireless LAN, you can never go back to wired because of its convenience.

These two things happened at just the right time, and a large number of AirPort Card refugees have occurred.

An alternative to the AirPort Card (M7600J / A).
This is quite difficult.

There are two main alternatives currently available.

First of all, the recommended method for desktop is to connect an adapter to the wired LAN port and convert it to wireless LAN.
This adapter comes from several leading manufacturers, but BUFFALO's WLI2-TX1-G54 54Mbps wireless LAN media converter , which can use 802.11b, g, is recommended because of its price, ease of use, and availability. .. You can use it with G3DT / MT or iMac Rev A. ~ D. as long as you have a LAN port.

Next is the notebook type, but unfortunately if you want a complete built-in, there is no other way than AirPort Card (M7600J / A).
However, the PCMCIA card type is an option if it is okay to stick out a little.
However, most of the products that are officially compatible with Mac, such as NCR and Reudo, have already been discontinued.
Therefore, there is a method that has been famous for a long time (laughs), but there is a method of disassembling the original AirPort BS and taking out the PCMCIA wireless LAN card from inside.
The original AirPort BS contains Lucent's PCMCIA wireless LAN card. This works on OS9. Of course, it is treated as genuine, so it should work with a genuine screwdriver. If you can't use genuine software, click hereYou can download the Orinoco driver for OS 8.6 to OS 9.x.
Unfortunately, Amazon did not list the first-hand AirPort BS. Please contact a used shop. * Unfortunately, base stations other than the first generation have not been disassembled, so I do not know what is going on inside.

Postscript:
I completely forgot another trick. I used it a long time ago, but it was missing from my memory. This was recommended because it is easy to obtain and does not require disassembly.
I'm sorry if you've been looking for a used AieMacBS.

Although it will be 802.11b, BUFFALO WLI-PCM-L11GP can be used with OS 7.5.2 to OS 9.0. However, due to the law, Buffalo in Japan does not have a driver. Of course, the product is also sold for Windows. However, it can be downloaded from the Buffalo US site. Currently, Ver. 6.00.6 and 6.00 can be downloaded. The difference seems to be whether or not ResEdit needs to be used when setting the ad hoc mode, so I think that 6.00.6 should be used. Although it will be in English, a setup guide (pdf) is also available.

The nice thing about this card is that it's PCMCIA compliant, not CardBus compliant.
To put it simply, wireless LAN can be used with G3, 3400, 2400, 1400, 5300, 190.

The download page says that it is compatible with OS 8.6, 9, but the Read Me First inside is 7.5.2, 7.5.3, 7.5.5, 7.6, 7.6.1, 8.0, 8.1, 8.5, 8.5. It says 1, 8.6, 9.0 and it's okay.
Unfortunately, the operation of 9.0.2, 9.0.4, 9.1, 9.2.1, 9.2.2 is unknown. We look forward to hearing from you.
(End of postscript)

As a promise, I would like you to try the method introduced this time at your own risk. However, it may be one of the options for those who absolutely need it.

By the way, even if you are using PMG4 or PBG4Ti, there are many options for OSX.
The story will come again next time.«
